Sam Worthington Responds To "Terminator" & "Avatar" Fan Backlash.

The new "it" man in Hollywood had some surprising things to say about some of the negative feedback garnered by McG's Terminator movie. He also responded to the lukewarm reception that the "Avatar" trailer received..

McG has already been honest enough to admit that there were things he wished he had done differently in the movie, and that a sequel will put things right. But it's a rare thing to find honesty like this in Hollywood!

Sam Worthington, after reading the negative fan feedback:

"I can nitpick with the best of them and go down the list of things I saw on IMDB where they found holes in it, and go, 'You are f*cking right,'" he said. "If there was a big 10-ton robot coming outside that gas station, surely we would f*cking hear it. And I missed that. So I'm going to be a bit better when I'm looking through my f*cking scripts. So it raises my game a bit, because now I feel like an idiot for not saying it to McG."

He added that he takes criticism very seriously and uses it to become a better actor. "I read what people say, because they're my audience," Worthington continued. "And if you don't know how you're coming across, in my opinion, I think you're cutting yourself off a bit."

All I can say is, fair play to you, sir! Many actors would have dismissed this type of criticism as just more fanboy whining.

Next up he addressed the "Avatar" footage and the fact that it looked..well, like a cartoon!

"It's interesting that [Cameron] released that trailer and then the next day goes and shows it on IMAX," Worthington said of the 16-minute preview released on August 21st in IMAX theaters. "One extreme to the other. We get the criticism, and then we get the rave reviews of what it really looks like in its own formula. That's obviously going to get people to think and go, 'Well, damn right. I'm going to go see this at the cinema.' Jim has always said to me he wants to bring people back to the movies. And he's a smart enough man to be tactical."

Worthington added that he has read lots of comments about the trailer and understands the disappointment. "It's got a hell of a lot of hype," he said. "I read all what was said yesterday about the trailer. I can see their point. But, as I said, it wasn't meant to be built for an Apple Mac. It's built for IMAX. It's built for 3-D."

I am one of the doubters! But I'll take Mr Worthington at his word for now.

I agree! It didn't look great or awful when I saw the trailer for Avatar. But I'm still hesitantly hopeful for now...

Havn't seen T4 yet and I'm still skeptical about Avatar, but this dude seems like a class act. But I still think he's all wrong for Captain America. Maybe someone can direct him to this site and get our opinions heard by the bigwigs in Hollywood.

@Shaman, You think he would shoot himself...I think he would shoot in his pants if he read how many people want him to be the main character in everything. Sure we bash some of his movies but everyone does that.

I haven't bought into the hype behind Avatar. Jim even said a while back he thought the hype was gonna kill this movie. I think Worthington is a big part of what made Terminator suck, both his acting and McG's shitty direction. His statements abopve though make me want to give him another shot, so I will. I'll wait for Clash of the Titans to tell.

Watchtower31- True, he'd be as depressed as flatered LOL :P

I agree with Myth, neither Terminator or Avatar should be used to critic this actor much. He's just not that big of a part of those. But come Clash or high water, we'll know what he can stomach!

Good man, its nice to have this sort of honesty in at least one person in Hollywood

Now I think he is wrong for Cap but who could he play in both a Marvel & DC movie? Would he be any good as Superman?

The guy would never make a good clean cut, overly heroic character imo. He just does not have that look! He looks like a tough, grizzled Aussie hard case..which he most likely is! I would like to see him as someone like Animal Man!

Currently, I think Worthington is a shitty actor, so I wouldn' put any of my beloved characters in his hands. As I said above, I'm willing to give hiom another chance, a best out of 3 type thing, Clash of the Titans will be what makes/breaks him totally in my eyes.

However, should he impress me and gain my faith, he does have the look and an appropriate humility to be Matt Murdock, what do you guys think?

you didn't like beowulf because it was a mockery. if you want to see a good beowulf movie watch the 13th warrior. most people don't even realize that's based on beowulf, but just pay attention to it...you'll see.

This statement pretty much sums up this Dibocle!!(And I mean by this by all the negative bandwaggon humppers..

And on the other hand Sam Worthington doesn't need to apologize for any criticism to the audience?! Critics are critics...
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 8/25/2009, 11:39 AM
So why aren't people that are positive about the footage bandwagon humpers? Surely it has to work both ways? Although i have pretty much given up trying to figure out the mentality of people that criticize people for being critical!

Anyway, 13th Warrior was pants! And i didn't get a Beowulf vibe from it at all really. It was based on an equally shite book called Eaters Of The Dead by Michael Crichton. I thought the animated Beowulf was pretty good..but the definitive story(most like the poem) is Beowulf And Grendel with Gerard Butler. Aside from some dodge effects its great.

i loved beowulf corndog that movie was revolutionary as far as cgi in my eyes i loved ray winstone as beowulf with that kind of innovation it doesnt really matter who you choose as long as they can act because they can make you look like anyone i mean winstone is short as hell and chubby but they made him look like a 6'8'' guy that was ripped i also like 13th warrior havent seen it in awhile ill have to check it out again i had no idea it was connected to beowulf

CorndogBurglar - 8/25/2009, 12:12 PM
@ Ror

your right it was based on eaters of the dead, but guess what eaters of the dead was based on! thats right, beowulf. do some research on it. i watched it recently and was like, "man this story is almost exactly like beowulf with a few changes." then i wiki'd it, and sure enough!!! some of the scenes are straight from beowulf, so it isn't a matter of how you interpret it, its a matter of how well you know the real beowulf story. hell, most of their names are identical. you just need to realize that antonio banderas isn't the beowulf character, the big blonde dude thats the leader of the brothers is supposed to be beowulf. once you see that, it all falls together!! pretty cool actually
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 8/25/2009, 12:27 PM
@ sabretooth tiger

your right, as far as the cgi, it was amazing, but they destroyed the story, and i'm a big fan of the classic beowulf. i like 13th warrior because it never started out WANTING to be beowulf, its more like a tribute to it. so there's a lot of things changed, like instead of grendel they fight the "eaters of the dead" feral humans that come down the mountainside to ravage the town, much like grendel did. so the town sends out for a hero to come save them, much like in beowulf. the first encounter with the eaters is directly out of beowulf. (they pretend to be asleep to draw an attack, and then they wake up and whoop some arse). then they follow the "eaters" back to their mountain home to finish them off. much like beowulf does with grendel.
SabretoothTiger
SabretoothTiger - 8/25/2009, 12:35 PM
thats cool corndog ive read a little bit on the original story of beowulf but idk i just loved that movie because everythin in my opinion was on point except for the story i knew it wasnt that close to the original but i mean him jumpin out of a sea monsters mouth through his eye was just insane i loved the story of the movie it was very creative and pulled me into it a lot

@ sabretooth

lol, i hear ya, and again, it was visually amazing! and in all honesty i liked it up until the point when he kills grendel. that should have been the end, instead they added another 30 minutes of stuff that was just all made up and not from the story, y'know?? that was my beef with it, really, when he went to fight grendel's mother, kinda ruined it for me.

Worthington's got the cobbles to step up and take his meds.
I like that.

Avatar trailer was OK. Not meeting the hype just yet, but I wasn't bummed on it. I'm gonna give it a go, but if it doesn't blow my mind I'll be bitching with the best. Cameron's had over a decade to make this movie, he started the hype machine on this and will have no one to blame but himself if it goes all "Lucas" on him.
