Studios Argue Over Who Will Distribute Terminator 5

Why should you give a cut turd? Because if this does not get resolved in a timely fashion one of the studios...

This from Variety:

"MGM has a 30-day right of first refusal to finance and distribute the fifth "Terminator" film, a right earned through the settlement of a lawsuit between the studio and Halcyon partners Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson. According to sources, MGM has every intention of making a serious play for the franchise, potentially trumping Warner Bro's., which is distributing "Terminator Salvation" in domestic territories, and Sony, which is releasing the film overseas"

"Salvation" was a much riskier prospect then than the fifth "Terminator" is now. At the time, MGM made its decision knowing only that franchise linchpin Arnold Schwarzenegger wasn't returning, and the studio had only an early script by "Terminator 3" scribes John Brancato and Michael Ferris they developed with "T3" helmer Jonathan Mostow. That script has changed significantly, with uncredited work done by Jonah Nolan, Paul Haggis, Shawn Ryan and Anthony Zuiker. Though Halcyon hasn't yet set a writer for the fifth film, the prospects are strong because McG is returning as director, and Christian Bale will reprise as John Connor.

It sounds like this is going to boil down between two studios MGM and Halycon. Why should you give a cut turd? Because if this does not get resolved in a timely fashion one of the studios suit lackeys will decide to take it to court and then we could be waiting a very very long time for T5.

@CaptainAmerica: The mods might erase comments that have nothing to do with topic. Keeps losers away, and mouths shut.

Term vs Robo would be awesome. Even if they did an anime series it would be cool.

I know this means that "Terminator: Salvation" will be awesome... and due to this BS the 5th movie will be trash that the studios only see as a way to make a quick buck so the quality of the writing and plot will be irrelevant. I hope I'm wrong.

LEEE,
I loved the Robocop vs. The Terminator video games, I love Robocop and I love The Terminator. BUT, Frank Miller's "Robocop vs. The Terminator" was horrible and if they did end up putting them into a movie against each other it would turn the Terminator franchise into a joke as opposed to (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THAT PIECE OF TRASH "T3") a well-thought and well-written franchise.

Smolo,
I like that idea of an animated series.

Oh @CaptainAmerica was here @ Smolo @ ??? Looks like they already have wiped his comments lmao! Yep @Caps that alright lol! : D

I think yeah even a anime of them two would be very sweet! Maybe an animated direct to dvd like DC an MARVEL does!!! Who's got the rights to ROBO now anyway??

MetalHead - 5/14/2009, 10:17 AM
They're working on making a new Robocop movie right now.

It's funny how he always gets deleted. He's not really living up to his name, is he?

Great. You got to love how these studios wait till a movie starts to look like a success before they come out with these legal issues. Damn greedy bastards.

CBM... Thank you for deleating CaptainAmerica's posts. Seriously, everytime that kid goes on one of his homophobic rants or unnecessarily hateful attacks on other posters... it makes me not want to come back to the site.

Keven... I hate the word turd too, but "You make me sick?" Calm down, hombre. Don't need to take things so seriously ;)

They could take the T vs RC and have HBO do to it like they did the spawn Anime. Nice and dark like it should be. The animation cost wouldn't have to be that much. Animation is getting to be damn near cheap because of technology. The voices of the characters is the main money sucker. They could use Peter Weller he shouldn't cost much since he isn't doing anything right now. The terminators wouldn't need a voice much and when do they do how hard is it to talk with no emotion? Grab the lighting associate. Edward Furlong as john connor he isn't making any big movies which equals cheap. Some random voice actors and you got your voices cheap and effective.

The "put John Connor's brain in a terminator" stuff kinda sounds like Robocop 2.

Now get Johnny Connor some Nuke and let's party!
