Peter Capaldi who plays the 12th incarnation of The Doctor and BBC's hit sci-fi Doctor Who, announced earlier on a BBC Radio 2 show that the upcoming 10th season would be his last.

"I feel it's time to move on," Peter Capaldi said. "I feel sad, I love Doctor Who, it is a fantastic programme to work on, I can't praise the people I work with more highly, but I have always been someone that did a lot of different things."

The show runners had offered to extend his contract, however, he perfered to move on to other things.

As sad as fans of the show will be to see him go, this does leave us to speculate as to who may be cast as the 13th Doctor....

The forthcoming season airs this spring on BBC and the next Christmas special will be his final episode.

Used to watch this show.Turned to shit when tumblr caught wind of it. Pretty sure in-canon a Time Lord can only regenerate 12 times, and since they made John Hurt an incarnation of him, Capaldi should be the last Doctor (unless of course they decide to break this rule, and we all know they will).

This is a shame.
Peter's tenure has been a dud, in my opinion because of stale creative. Much like Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy, the forces behind the show are have lost their touch and Peter has suffered for it.
Hopefully he will get some good ideas well written in his last series.
And we have a new show runner and lead to look forward to in 2018.

Good. He hasn't been terrible, but the last two seasons have just been really boring. It's time to change things up.
