Donald Glover Thinks Sony Will Make A Live-Action MILES MORALES Movie And That He'll Play The Prowler

At one point in time, Donald Glover was a fan favorite to portray Miles Morales but too much time has passed and the Mr. and Mrs. Smith star now has his sights set on Prowler.

Miles Morales was created by comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli back in 2011 and Bendis has gone on record to state that the character was inspired by Donald Glover.

Specifically, Bendis stated that the idea for Miles Morales came into his head when he saw Glover wearing a Spider-Man costume during an episode of Community. Said Bendis, "He looked fantastic! I saw him in the costume and thought, 'I would like to read that book.' So I was glad I was writing that book."

Given Bendis' statement, Glover was attached to the character for a number of years and seemed receptive to the idea of portraying Miles in live-action but as the years passed, Glover began to state that he was too old and that too much time had passed.

As such, Glover appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming as Miles' uncle, Aaron Davis and even briefly mentioned his nephew. Glover also has a live-action cameo as the Prowler in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, having been captured and detained by the Spider-Society.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair to promote his upcoming Mr. and Mrs. Smith reboot, Glover deflected a question about him portraying Miles by stating that he thinks Sony is definitely going to make a live-action film and that he's more likely to portray Miles' uncle.

The Spider-Man discourse starts around the [03:12] mark of the Vanity Fair lie detector interview.

Said Glover on Sony's plans, "There’s definitely going to be like a Miles Morales live-action eventually, and I think they’re probably more concerned with me being Prowler in that or something like that. I'm too old to be Spider-Man now."

Sony definitely seems to be planting the seeds for Miles 'eventual introduction into the live-action Spider-Man cinematic universe, with many fans convinced that whenever Tom Holland grows tired of playing the wallcrawler, Sony will quickly shift over to Miles.

Though primarily depicted as a villain in the animated Spider-Verse films, Prowler does have comic book history as a hero- starting out as a petty thief who turns his life around after an encounter with Peter Parker Spider-Man.

Would you want a live-action take on Prowler to have a more heroic depiction where he teams up with Miles or do you prefer the more villainous take on the character?

Also, given Glover's appearance in Homecoming, do you want a live-action Miles move to be tied to Holland's Peter Parker and the MCU or should Sony wipe the slate clean and start fresh? Let us know in the comment section below.

It'll be as monumental as seeing the F4 or X-men in the MCU.

What a weird and wonderful Moebius loop the Miles Morales character is. Glover dressed up as Spidey on Community, inspired by a fan campaign to cast him as Peter Parker in a reboot. While the campaign was unsuccessful, the Community appearance led to Bendis creating Miles Morales in Glover’s image. Which led to Glover voicing Morales on a TV show and playing Miles’ uncle in Homecoming, and then again in his Prowler costume in Across the Spider-verse. And in a nod to his origins, the Community appearance was shown on a TV in Into the Spider-verse.

Sony made bank because of a fan campaign.

The only concerning thing is there is a good chance theyd use Miles as the Spider-Man of their sad little bad guys universe

Man he's definitely charismatic enough to put people in seats, but I'm more worried that Sony would just fumble the ball on this sad Spidey-free universe once again.

Meh keep him animated, those movies are great. Making a live action one will just muddy the waters with the animated and the games telling his story in motion. Both doing that fantastically why throw a live action on top

He's already appeared as Prowler in the Tom Holland universe. If he's reprising his role then it'll probably be in Spider-man 4 because Disney Marvel is obsessed with rushing to the next incarnations of characters.

I personally expect Miles to show up in either Spider-man 4 or Secret Wars to pay off the joking remark/set-up from NWH. Having Tobey, Andrew and Tom quite bluntly hanging out and approving of this brand new Spider-man would work well to act as a way of saying to the audience that 'you should like Miles Morales because the other Spider-man do'

@Scarilian - And he already showed up as a live-action prowler in a Miles Morales movie too.

@Scarilian - agreed, Disney do not seem to appreciate that movie theatre seats are sold on the original legacy characters and not the teen versions of them. Maybe that was their play all time in buying Marvel was to move on to these teen versions as quickly as possible as they fit in with the rest of their portfolio being aimed at the younger audience.

I wouldn't mind a miles movie but maybe in a few years when Sony have had time to plan it out properly.

@AquaClunge -
Most likely scenario:

• Spider-man 4 in 2026 being fairly grounded introduce Miles who gets his powers at the end of the film

• Secret Wars in 2028 to have Miles suited up, Miles meets all the other Spider-man, Tobey Maguire's Spider-man dies and does the 'great power great responsibility' line for Miles, Peter acquires the black suit.

• Spider-man 5 in 2029 having a team-up film between Peter and Miles against Venom

• Miles Morales solo movie in 2030, facing off against the Prowler

• Spider-man 6 in 2031 featuring the Sinister Six, death of Tom Holland's Peter Parker

• Miles Morales sequel in 2032

@Scarilian - I'd be OK with all of that except Tobey biting the dust 😭 that's my spiderman right there! If Sony executed it well it would work but I don't trust Sony for shit 😅😭

@AquaClunge -
It'd be Disney killing off Tobey, likely with the approval of Sony.

Andrew Garfield they'd probably keep for a Sinister Six movie.

Holland they'll keep for another trilogy which would handle Venom and pass the torch to Miles.

I feel the same way though, I don't think Tobey should be killed off, especially because Disney won't have earned it.

@Order66 -

I've had this sort of idea for a while, but I suppose you've probably read it elsewhere or had similar views yourself.

Most of it just seems logical, like how people including myself predicted the portal scene the second the portals were introduced because it'd just be a logical way to bring all the Avengers together.

having TV funny man a$$clown Glover in live action MCU is a horrible idea.
