Following a strong $32.5 million Friday, Sony and Marvel's
Spider-Man: Far From Home has swung to a $124 million four-day total and is now on course for a spectacular $180 million plus six-day Fourth of July launch, which is among the best ever for the Independence Day holiday.
Sony Pictures have also now bumped up their extremely conservative $125 million six-day domestic projection to $176 million. For comparison's sake,
Spider-Man: Homecoming opened with $117 million over a traditional three-day weekend back in 2017.
Worldwide, as of July 6th, the critically-acclaimed Jon Watts-directed sequel has grossed over $342.4 million ($123.9M domestic; $218.5M foreign) and is widely expected to cross the $500 million milestone by the end of business on Sunday, setting its sights on becoming the first Spidey movie to cross the billion-dollar marker.
As for the rest of the domestic box office, Disney & Pixar's
Toy Story 4 is projected to finish second with $33 million or more while Universal's
Yesterday will round out the top three with over $10 million.
Additionally, in more good news for Disney, Guy Ritchie's
Aladdin has now topped $900 million worldwide ($315.8M domestic; 584.2M foreign), making it the third-highest grossing film of the year and the fourth-highest grossing Disney live-action remake ever.
