Spider-Man: Homecoming is a major success, both critically and financially. One of the undeniable achievements of Jon Watt’s movie was turning the forgotten comic-book bad guy into a real threat to Peter Parker. Seeing how one of the most ridiculous Spidey villains was transformed on the movie screen into one of the best antagonists we’ve had in a long time had to be a big surprise to everyone.

It’s said that success has many fathers, but in this particular case almost all credit should go to the actor and the genre veteran, Michael Keaton. In the newest featurette attached to the movie’s upcoming blu-ray release, the actor and producers explain how the Vulture’s tech-heavy suit was brought to life. You can check out the video below:

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

@Jaspion - Definitely. Ego's probably the only other one to come close, but this hasn't been a great year for villains (even though it's been a f@#*ing BANNER year for superheroes).

Still, even in a year PACKED with amazing foes, Keaton's Vulture would still be soaring at the top of the heap. It's shocking how great he is in that movie-- and how smart the writers were in revamping the character.

Lol remember when fans were upset the Vulture would be the villain because he was lame? It goes to show that with proper time and motivation, any villain can be made great

@Deonox - No lie, Vulture is one of my least favorite villains in the comics. But they managed to make him one of my favorites in the MCU.

Great design for a great villain. Best CBM antagonist of the year so far, and I doubt Ragnarok or JL will change that. One of my favorite MCU villains in general, too. Scary and intimidating but at the same time sympathetic.

The biggest part that threw me off about that movie...and there wasn't much...was the build up during the movie about the high altitude modifications on the suit. The tinkerer kept talking about the modifications repeatedly throughout the movie.

Then The Vulture finally gets the high altitude modifications so he can breathe and goes after Tony Stark's plane, but then Spider-Man is outside that plane....at high altitude....and has no problem breathing.

Now you can say, he's Spider-Man and his power allows that.....but does it? If they had at least had him laboring a little that would made it more believable, but they spent all that time setting up the high altitude modifications and they really didn't offer an advantage or any kind of plot point.

Now if Spider-Man would have had trouble breathing and tried to get into he plane and Vulture had the advantage fighting him outside the plane...then they could have used that by showing Spider-Man trying to get into the plane so he could breathe and regain the advantage.

Just something that stuck out to me.

But Michael Keaton was just brilliant. He was FANTASTIC.
And if you haven't seen "The Founder" (which is on Netflix)...watch it. He's fantastic in that as well.

@411IDSigo - I believe the modifications actually had to do with the vacuum the wings created when they attached to the plane, so there was no depressurization and he could just walk around inside the plane like he did.

@411IDSigo - I took the "upgrades" as the suits new ability to form a air tight seal to the plane allowing the vulture to completely detach from his suit and enter the plane at high altitudes and high speeds and the suit would remain there safely until he returned to the suit. His other robberies he just jumped from the suit into a truck or whatever else
