SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING CinemaCon Report - Tony Stark Takes Back The Spidey Suit

Sony's CinemaCon panel naturally featured a segment for their upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming collab with Marvel. Footage revealed that the webcrawler will be losing his Stark-designed threads.

Here's a twist.  It seems the Spider-Man: Homecoming footage shown at CinemaCon featured Tony Stark upbraiding Tom Holland's Spider-Man for being reckless and destructive (Captain America and Nick Fury would certainly get a kick out of seeing Tony lecturing someone about that!).

Taking the stage were Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, actor Tom Holland, director Jon Watts, Homecoming producer and former Sony chief Amy Pascall and her successor, Tom Rothman.

According to Feige, the idea for how to introduce Spider-Man into the MCU is to play up the fact that Peter Parker's been there the whole time, as he would've been roughly five or six at the time that Tony Stark revealed himself as Iron Man.  Perhaps we'll get a few scenes of a young Peter Parker reacting and watching some of the more notable MCU events such as Hulk's Harlem battle with Abomination and the Chitauri invasion?

One development of note is that a mistake by Spidey during a ferry rescue scene prompts Iron Man to show up and make the actual save.  Peter's struggle prompts Tony to take the Spider-Man costume/armor back as he tells Peter he "shouldn't need it to be Spider-Man." As such, Peter suits back up in the homemade costume briefly seen in Captain America: Civil War.  This is another interesting development as it opens the door for Peter to potentially make his own costume by the film's end.  It seems Watts wants to show Peter yearning to be an Avenger and operate on a larger scale but his journey in Homecoming will be about him learning to just take care of NYC.  At one point, Tony literally tells him, "Can’t you just be a friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man?"

As previously disclosed, expect  a  new trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming to make its way online later today. The film arrives in theaters on July 07, 2017.

As expected, but it doesn't sound as much like a falling out as I was hoping for.

Also, I wish I hadn't read that spoiler... :(

@Spock0Clock - What spoiler? Whatever it was, I've already forgotten. You have to learn how to do that in the Information Age.

@Fogs - Questions....
1. Is that a SHIELD aircraft at the end?
2. Is the Stark Iron Man helmet that is shown in someone's hands one from his IM3 finale and the Wrecking Crew came and picked up the pieces?
3. Do the Wrecking Crew have access to more Stark tech from the IM3 finale?
4. With Tony taking away Spidey's suit will Spidey use some of what appears to be Chitauri tech that he encounters at the ATM heist to help build his own powered suit?

Me no am a Bizarro "Mr. Sunday" Girl Me am last.

Why is Tony so heavily featured in the plot? I was good with a cameo, but it looks like this movie's going to be Iron Man 4.

@AMrSundayGirl58 - No its about Spider-man, its a coming of age storyline so why not have him meet his heroes and then have a fall out with them. Adds drama and emotion to the character. And a prefect way to sell more toys hahaa

So do we get 3 different suits in Homecoming?
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 3/28/2017, 12:34 AM
@WruceBayne - Maybe. Marvel does love their suits.

@Spock0Clock - Almost as much as DC. Lol.

Spock0Clock - 3/28/2017, 12:44 AM
@AMrSundayGirl58 - DC lately has been pretty tame. Even the Schumacher-era toy commercial movies don't compare to Marvel nowadays. Clooney had Bat-Nipples and an Ice-Suit, but Tony can't get through a movie without at least two costume changes, and then there was Iron Man 3... My god, Iron Man 3... When they said "Mk 42", they didn't scrimp on the the other 41.

I'm pretty sure we're going to get more-or-less the iconic suit when Peter builds his own. Incorporating the shutter eyes and such, but with a more simple, less "Starky" design sentiment. Like how Cap ditched the shield magnets and Widow dropped the glows strips after Ultron. Though, we may not get it featured heavily in the movie itself, but just as an epilogue type thing or even just in Infinity War.

I kind of like how Tony's idea of "make everyone look cool" is basically all bells and whistles, and that people tend to back away from the gimmicks after a while.

JONALOTZRH - 3/28/2017, 12:49 AM
@Spock0Clock - No I don't thing we are going to get a third costume. By looking at the last trailer he seems to wear the home made suit for the last battle with the Shockers and Vulture. Maybe at the end of the film you see him make a third one for set up since we are defo not getting the black suit in IW now (stupid Sony).
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 3/28/2017, 12:56 AM
@JONALOTZRH - Yeah, that's what I was meaning by "as an epilogue". Maybe one of those swinging-through-skyscrapers internal-monologue sequences that have been in basically all of the movies before they cut to the credits.
JONALOTZRH
JONALOTZRH - 3/28/2017, 1:01 AM
@Spock0Clock - Now I've though more on it yeah I think its going to be a big theme of the movie with the use of 'tech' since the Vulture and his crew seem to be all about the tech. So spidy fails with the use of tech and then wins when he is in his PJ home made suit.

Might also be a lesson for Tony if he has a bigger enough role other then a father figure.

And hopefully that means the last shot from the first trailer isn't the last shot of the film. You know Sony and their marketing team. Can't wait for that rhino fight hahaha
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 3/28/2017, 1:05 AM
@JONALOTZRH - lol. But yeah, I think you're right. That's a good call about Pete ditching the tech and winning with (dramatic pause) heart.
JONALOTZRH
JONALOTZRH - 3/28/2017, 1:13 AM
@Spock0Clock - When putting it like that its defo what the films is about. Prefect coming of age storyline for a new coming hero. Sprinkle a bit of Uncle Ben dialog to mirror the two father figures. Also to learn how not to make your own villains just like Tony ahaha. Wow Tony adding Vulture to your list now lol.
