Liev Schreiber Shares Some Details On Sony's MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN Animated Movie

Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan) was recently cast in Sony's upcoming Spider-Man animated movie revolving around Miles Morales and the actor now weighs in on the "throwback" vibe of the project.

We recently learned that Shameik Moore will voice Miles Morales in the upcoming animated Spider-Man feature film, while Liev Schreiber - no stranger to comic book adaptations after playing Sabretooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine - has been cast as the yet to be revealed lead villain. When Collider caught up with the Ray Donovan star recently, they were quick to ask him about his work on the project.

Confirming that he doesn't start recording his lines for another month or two, the actor couldn't give much away about the story, but did say that, "I think real hardcore Spidey fans will be able to follow this with great ease. It will feel very familiar, in a good way, in a kind of throwback way."

That's interesting phrasing, especially as Miles Morales is such a modern character. We have no idea what animation style the movie will use or if it could end up having an unexpected period setting!

"It was my children, really," Schreiber added when asked why he signed up to star in the untitled Spider-Man movie. "People know me from things like Chuck and Ray Donovan, and I now have an 8-year-old and a 9-year-old, and I would very much like to do things that they can see so they know what their father does." Set to be released in 2018, expect more details to be revealed shortly.

@Kman - I absolutely LOVED Logan, my personal favorite film in the X-Men Universe. That said, they kinda dropped the ball by not having Sabretooth in it.

@Kman - Instead of that lame Logan clone witth no cinematic history. Bad choice. Could you imagine how cool it'd be to have the two brothers complete their story arc? Sabertooth possibly in much better shape than Logan via not having an adamantium skeleton poisoning him? Maaan...opportunity MISSED.

@Lem1 - No not a bad move. Sabretooth would have been more of a distraction than anything else since the whole point of the story was Logan just trudging through at the end of the day. In fact the point of the clone wasn't to be a character at all but literally the face of his younger self as the final challenge in his life that ultimately kills him, because his greatest enemy is and always has been himself.

@Kman - The "Siblings" fight like cats and dogs....he could be a good anti-hero in a Weapon-X or X-23 solo film. Even X-Force 2.

@Lem1 - That Clone was "Albert". He was created by the Reavers Donald Pierce. He end up becoming reprogramed by Elsie Dee. http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Albert_(Earth-616)

I would like see either Silk or Arana as a sidekick to Miles' Spider-Man. Also curious to know which villain Liev is voicing.

I did like him as Sabretooth. Had he been in Logan, however, I think, he should have been X-24 and would have really changed the film.

I'm assuming he'll be Norman Osbourne. I doubt he really knows much about the movie yet, so his comments aren't going to mean much.

@Origame - No, I meant that it's an animated movie by Sony so it'll probably suck.

Why are we getting this instead of a Spider-Man 2099 movie?
