SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Co-Director Talks Doctor Strange Easter Egg; First Clip Released

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a little over two weeks away, and the first clip has been released (via Toonado.com) from the sequel.

In that, we see a familiar scene from the movie's trailers in which Miles Morales' poor performance in his Spanish lessons is revealed to his mom and dad. Needless to say, they're not happy with their son flunking such an important subject, but little do they know he's Brooklyn's wall-crawling superhero!

Talking to SFX, co-director Kemp Powers addressed that MCU Easter Egg in the sneak peeks which sees Spider-Man 2099 mention "Doctor Strange and that little nerd on Earth 199999." That's obviously a reference to Spider-Man: No Way Home, but it may be the only one we're getting!

"The world of Miles Morales and Spider-Verse, it's not tied into the Marvel Cinematic Universe or anything like that," he explained. "But this is a Lord and Miller film. We like to have a little bit of fun, we like to be a little bit meta and to acknowledge the world in which we are creating these stories. This isn't something where we did anything in conjunction with Marvel."

Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn's full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence.

But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

The movie stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Karan Soni, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham, and Oscar Isaac.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to be released in theaters on June 2, 2023.

@IcePyke - I do like her as an actress and she clearly loves the franchise.

I liked the first movie but the overall animation style they use with the frame-skipping style or whatever they call it gave me a migraine for almost a week after I watched it. I have to avoid that style of animation like the plague. :(

@Deklipz - Man, that sucks. The human brain is so weird.

@Deklipz - I think it's just low frame rate to mimic the methods of turn-page animation.

@Tonic24k - unfortunately no, a lot of things have started using the style. I can’t watch ultra man on Netflix and a handful of other things I’d have to dig around and sort out. There’s a couple other things on Netflix and Amazon if I remember correctly. If I remember correctly it’s a bit cheaper and less taxing when they render things out.

And this Miles isn't a nerd? That Spiderman is way cooler than Miles.

"This isn't something where we did anything in conjunction with Marvel."

They mention Doctor Strange as an actual character. Would they not have had to at least ask permission for that?
