SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Reportedly Features Major Reference To SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME - SPOILERS

Spider-Man: No Way Home introduced the MCU's Peter Parker to the Multiverse, and a new rumour reveals how the events of that movie are referenced in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse! Check it out...

We recently learned that Tom Holland might have shot a live-action cameo appearance for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse that would see him come face-to-face with the animated Miles Morales. However, we now have news about how Spider-Man: No Way Home will specifically be referenced in the upcoming sequel.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman (via Toonado.com), the movie's characters are going to mention a "certain event" that recently took place in the Multiverse, mentioning "the mess that Doctor Strange [and] the nerdy kid caused."

The fact the 2021 threequel will impact Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to that extent is definitely a surprise, and this suggests Doctor Strange's spell may even be what prompts Spider-Man 2099 to assemble all these Variants.

As for why Peter Parker is referred to as "the nerdy kid," that's because no one remembers who's beneath the mask (even his fellow Peters). Seeing as these Spider-Heroes are male, female, alien, and otherwise, they aren't all a Peter Parker, so the fact this group can't deduce the identity of the MCU's Spidey is no plot hole.

Richtman also says not to expect cameos from Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire, so it might be best to temper expectations this June despite what's recently been reported.

In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, after reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence.

However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

Written by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and David Callaham, and directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, Justin K. Thompson, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2, 2023.

@tmp3 - cinematic universes starting to become disgusting

Everything doesn’t need to connect to something else

@ShimmyShimmyYA - Just this weird desire to have everything be one big story. Like when people are mad MCU is Earth-616. Why would you need the comics to connect??

Better get used to it once DCU gets going

People are anti-connectivity now? smh... fanbases these days... a world with no DC universe or Marvel universe or MCU?! No multiverses? ssmh

No crossovers?!?!
malschla
malschla - 3/6/2023, 7:40 AM
@ObserverIO - Not “no” crossovers, just not EVERYTHING being a crossover. One of the best parts about the first movie is that it was a self-contained story.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - Once anything makes money in Hollywood it never goes away. 😒

@malschla - Sure but a self-contained story that crossed over into multiple universes, most of them fan-favorite comics universes.
malschla
malschla - 3/6/2023, 11:34 AM
@ObserverIO - and? How does that matter? It was still separate from everything else. You didn’t need to watch anything other than that move to understand what was going on.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 3/6/2023, 1:19 PM
@malschla - What makes you think you'll need to watch No Way Home to understand what's going on in Across The Spider-verse?

And what makes you think that anyone going to see Across The Spider-verse wouldn't have already seen No Way Home?
malschla
malschla - 3/6/2023, 9:14 PM
@ObserverIO - I don’t think you will have to watch it… but that is just the start with these things. There is no need. If it doesn’t matter, why include it?

Also, I know PLENTY of people who have seen Spiderverse and haven’t seen NWH.

Following a fantheory I saw on reddit (that Kang council will go over all characters who touched the multiverse regardless if its sony, disney, or crystal dynamics), I wonder if it's possible a variant of Kang will show up in this to take out the spidermen who touched the multiverse
Repian
Repian - 3/5/2023, 5:07 PM
@Vigor - Kang no please. But maybe Morlun and The Inheritors cross the Spider-Verse as they hunt down variants of Spider-Man.

So Spider-Man noir could be the great absent from "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse". Finally, we see a post-credit short film where an heir comes to Noir-Verse. There the heir fights Spidey Noir and he is the first variant to die.

@WruceBayne - gotcha. Just don't know if that has a multiverse angle. Only a time-travel one, but that's the same really anyway

This was fine standing on its own as a solid trilogy of movies

I know a lot of people like this animated Spidey thing, but PLEASE keep the animated completely separated from the live action movies. But with the way Hollywood is now, I imagine it's inevitable they will blend them.

ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 3/6/2023, 4:37 AM
@DocSpock - They already did. 'What If...?' was animated. And there were the Arrowverse cartoons like Vixen. And then there's Clone Wars, etc. This has been going on very long time, now that I actually think about it.
DocSpock
DocSpock - 3/6/2023, 12:11 PM

That is true. I don't know much about those shows you mentioned because I never watched any of them.

Very true. A case of bud light & a bag full of fireworks, and you'll think Burning Man moved to upper Michigan. @OriginalGusto1 is always a party explosion just waiting to go off.

I kinda hope the other two live-action Spider-Men do remember Tom Holland's Spider-Man. Especially if they also show up in Secret Wars.

As for Spider-Verse, I don't think any of the three need to show up or be mentioned. And because it's the guy that has people pay for the scoops say it, I'm taking it with a truckload of salt anyway.

I wouldn’t have thought Doctor Strange’s spell would work across the multiverse otherwise innocent Peter Parkers are going to have their lives ruined when everyone forgets who they are in their universe.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 3/6/2023, 4:40 AM
@Knightrider - I think the forgetting spell was only for the one universe. It just used reality warping magicks, so it affected reality in a way that affected the multiverse, when the spell was interrupted.

Just a small little nod to No Way Home, what's the big deal here? Why so many people crying about it? How will this affect your enjoyment of this particular movie? I mean yeah, they are taking advantage of their other movie to get more people interested in this one. In other news, water is wet.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 3/6/2023, 11:09 AM
@Urubrodi - I really don't get it. This is the kind of news that would make fans nut not so long back and now this is what we're crying about? Fans are spoilt these days.

In fact it was just over a year ago we were all drooling over No Way Home! How is this any different from No Way Home? I seriously do not get it.

Urubrodi - 3/6/2023, 11:24 AM
@ObserverIO - Yeah, lately I've been thinking on just using this site to get my news without engagin too much on comments anymore, because it's always everything so negative around here. Like nothing seems exciting to people anymore. Like it's rare to find a piece of news where the majority of people are looking forward to it.
ObserverIO

@Urubrodi - There seems to have been a general growing apathy since 2020 and it's just getting worse. Maybe we just need something to bring us all together. Like a giant squid or something.
