Marvel may have skipped San Diego Comic-Con this year, but the brand wasn't completely absent from this year's convention. The absence of the MCU opened the door for Sony's upcoming animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Prior to the panel for the film, individual members from the cast and crew were interviewed about the highly anticipated movie.

While we're a few days removed from the convention, relive some of the excitement through these panel highlights and cast and director interview.

For those of you who missed it, you can watch some of the highlights from the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse panel below.

The panel features castmembers Shameik Moore (Miles Morales), Jake Johnson (Peter Parker), Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen Stacy); directors Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman; and writers Chris Miller and Phil Lord.

While there were plenty of big moments in the panel (you can read all about them here), the biggest reveal was undoubtedly the announcement that Nicolas Cage and John Mulaney have been cast to voice Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Ham, respectively.

Across the other pages, you can find individual interviews among the cast and directors of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which were conducted prior to the panel.

Interview with Shameik Moore (Miles Morales)

In the first interview, we have Shameik Moore, who provides the voice of Miles Morales, the main character in the film. After expressing his thankfulness for portraying the character, Moore offered some insight into what fans can expect from the film, including the differences between Peter Parker and Miles Morales in the film.

"The OG Spider-Man fans that love the old animated series back in the day are going to get that Spider-Man out of Peter Parker. We sauce it up, ya know, we sauce it up. We bring Miles Morales to the forefront," promised Moore.

The actor also pointed out that Morales will have different powers than Parker in the movie, though he stopped short of revealing such powers. Check out the full interview below.

Interview with Jake Johnson (Peter Parker)

Next up we have actor Jake Johnson, who provides the voice for Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Johnson's comments echo that of Moore's when it comes to this older-take on Peter Parker.

"The beauty of the Spider-Verse is for the OG Spider-Man fans, you're going to get Peter Parker and you're going to get him in a new, fun way. He is a the same Peter Parker," Johnson said. "And then for a new audience, a new group of people, you're going to get Miles Morales' Spider-Man which is going to add a whole new dimension."

"I think their relationship is really special in this movie and really fun. I think they form - Shameik said it in an interview - but they're a very unlikely pair of great friends," he added.

Check out Johnson's full interview for his take on Into the Spider-Verse below.

Interview with Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman (Directors)

Laslty, we have Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, the trio of directors behind this highly anticipated movie.

"You can just tell that it's made by fans of comic books and people who - we were tasked with trying to create something unique and different, and at the same time pay an homage to the source material which is the original comics. And find the cinematic interpretation of that," said Bob Pershichettis.  Adding to that, the director admitted, "It took us a while to get to and it was hard, but I think the response has been amazing."

Rothman likened the entire creative process to "lightning striking," adding that fans will be impressed with what they see. Based on the trailers we've seen thus far, it certainly seems true.

Check out the interview below to also hear from Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman for more comments on how the unique vocal performances by Shamiek, Jake, and the rest of the cast helped drive the animated performances.
