KRAVEN THE HUNTER Star Aaron Taylor-Johnson Explains How Shooting On Location Makes It Different To MCU Movies

Kraven the Hunter star Aaron Taylor-Johnson talks about shooting the movie entirely on location, explaining how that makes it different from the "stage look" of other Marvel blockbusters. Check it out!

Kraven the Hunter is one of Spider-Man's greatest foes, going so far as to gun the web-slinger down and bury him alive. He's a character who has always pushed Peter Parker to his limits and is an undeniably fearsome villain, so it obviously makes perfect sense to portray him as an anti-hero in a solo movie.

Right?!

Like it or not, that's the plan at Sony Pictures with 2023's Kraven the Hunter, and Avengers: Age of Ultron and Bullet Train star Aaron Taylor-Johnson will play the title character.

That's an impressive bit of casting, though this wouldn't exactly be the first time an A-Lister has been roped into Sony's Marvel Universe. The difference, however, is that Taylor-Johnson has already been part of the MCU after playing Quicksilver, and he has a strong opinion on what makes Kraven the Hunter different to any other Marvel movie we've seen.

"Kraven being shot entirely on location is going to make all the difference. It’s going to add something really beautiful to our personal story," he says. "It also sets Kraven apart from that Marvel stage look. It’s important for this character to be in the real world. "

"It’s important for the authenticity of the story. When you’re running on streets barefoot, you take in those elements and play within that."

We wouldn't necessarily say MCU movies have a "stage look," but Taylor-Johnson's observation is a valid one. A movie being shot entirely on location can make a world of difference, and we're certainly intrigued by the scale of this origin story for Kraven. Again, it's hard to see the point without Spider-Man, but there's always a chance he'll take aim at a different wall-crawler.

All we ask is that the movie doesn't end with The Vulture and Morbius showing up to offer Kraven the chance to join a team and "do some good."

Kraven the Hunter is set to be released in theaters on January 13, 2023.

@rebellion - wouldn't be surprised if there's some sore feelings on his part. He was killed off right in his introduction and not asked to return for wandavision.

@Origame - well i would agree with him. they killed him off too soon and not bringing him back in wandavision/MoM was such a missed opportunity.

@rebellion - yeah and it didn't make sense bringing in Evan peters, other than subversion of expectations.

@Origame - seriously? Sore feelings? There’sa reason why fox didn’t use scarlet witch…they were using quicksilver. They made some deal like that
Origame
Origame - 8/14/2022, 9:45 AM
@Mrtoke - ...what are you talking about? Fox didn't use scarlet witch because they didn't have a place for her. In fact she was gonna make a brief appearance (technically the little girl we see is her appearance but the original idea was another sibling being her) but it was cut because it had nothing to do with anything. There was no deal with marvel over using these characters.

As for feige, he states the motivation for the decision to kill quicksilver had to do with the plans they had for scarlet witch.

Legally both marvel and fox could've used both characters if they wanted to. No deals required.

@Origame - the little girl is polaris i thought? they are twins, the little girl being wanda doesnt make sense.
Origame
Origame - 8/14/2022, 11:16 AM
@Gizmoduck - I mean, from the perspective of there being no other sister established, she basically has to be Wanda.

Besides, it's fox. You know they aren't above changing such basic things.

@Origame - i found the Bryan Singer quote

“Is that the Scarlet Witch? No, that’s his little sister,” Singer said. “I even had a line which I cut, where Quicksilver’s mother says to the little girl, ‘Go up and bug your sister,’ and the little girl says, ‘She bugs me!’ You never see the older sister, but it was to imply that there is an older sister for comic book fans. I ended up cutting it.”

Fox is so dumb, even nods like this are loved by fans - they dont even establish shes polaris which is fine, but two lines of dialog would go a long way.

@Gizmoduck - again, key word technically. As in, for all intents and purposes she is the closest thing to a fox Wanda there is.

@Origame - And his death also didn't make a lot of sense. A speedster being killed by bullets just feels off. Now I'm not well versed on Quicksilver's speed but you would think that he'd be able to run fast enough to avoid bullets.

@braunermegda - Absolutely! The Marvel movies have a cheap stage look to them that has only gotten somehow worse as budgets get bigger.
