Kevin Smith Goes On F-Bomb Laden Tirade After SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Was Snubbed At The Oscars

Filmmaker Kevin Smith has taken aim at the Academy for snubbing Spider-Man: No Way Home in the "Best Picture" race, and he's pretty much as unhappy as the rest of us based on this f-bomb laden tirade...

It always felt like wishful thinking, but many fans were still disappointed to learn that Spider-Man: No Way Home had been snubbed for a "Best Picture" nomination at the Oscars earlier this week. The movie received widespread critical acclaim (it was even named as the best-reviewed movie of the year by Rotten Tomatoes) and has so far earned over $1.77 billion at the global box office.

That wasn't good enough for the Academy, though, and Spider-Man: No Way Home ended up with just a single nomination for "Best Visual Effects."

Filmmaker and podcaster Kevin Smith has become the latest person to vent his frustrations over the snub, expressing his disappointment during a recent edition of his Fat Man Beyond Podcast"What the f**k? They got ten slots, they can't give one to the biggest f**king movie of like the last three years?" he started. "Man, and they're like 'Why won't anyone watch this show?'"

"Like, f**king make a populist choice. F**k, man. [You've] got how many slots? Throw in Spider-Man for God's sake. Let him swing in there. F**king poor kid's always getting crapped on and sh*t...show Peter Parker some f**king love. I'm not even being facetious, with as many movies as they have nominated for 'Best Picture.'"

There have been vocal demands for the Oscars to start recognising more than just niche movies since The Dark Knight was overlooked way back in 2009. Unfortunately, it's never happened, and plans for a "Best Popular Film" category were met with such a negative response, the idea was quickly dropped.

Black Panther and Joker have managed to push their way into that "Best Picture" category, but superhero movies, for the most part, continue to be overlooked and ignored by the Academy. As Smith rightly notes, ratings for the awards show are at an all-time low, and shutting out Spider-Man: No Way Home will do nothing to help matters when the awards are handed out on Sunday, March 27.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - Still better rated by both critics and audience members than Don't Look Up.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - I know right? I loved NWH, but it wasn't the best movie I saw last year. A Quiet Place 2 definitely takes the crown on that one.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - The majority of the films that got nominated for Oscars aren't even Oscar Worthy.

@Unites - Ahh yes, because a movie like Dont Look Up would never be review bombed by a bunch of idiots who dont get the movie or are the ones the movie is making fun of.

Not saying the Oscar picks are right, but giving No Way Home the Best picture is just as stupid as giving Robert Downey Jr. an Oscar for Endgame.

I haven't seen it, but Nightmare Alley seems like a great movie.

I'm going to the cinema this weekend to se C'mon C'mon with Joaquin Phoenix, that looks like an Oscar movie.

@UXASIS - id actually agree with Downey for best actor in endgame over no way home for best picture. At least there Downey is about as good in the role as can objectively be determined. And there was nuance to it as well.

@UXASIS - Saw C'mon C'mon in December-ish time at the cinema. Obvs very different from comic book movies, we loved it though. The acting is next level, especially from the kid.

As someone who grew up with love for He-Man and has been a fan of his since before Clerks became a hit outside of New Jersey I'll just say "Hey Kevin, shut the [frick] up you bitch"

This movie wasn't Oscar worthy. It was a standard comic book movie. Even Black Panther shouldn't have been nominated (and never had a chance of winning), so people need to chill.

@Darkknight2149 - The Batman looks like your standard comic book movie. Looking forward to it but it won't deserve any nominations either. According to the elites on CBM, comic book movies don't deserve to be nominated.

@obredaan - I think it doesn't so much look like a standard comic book movie.

This is stupid. It's stupid anyone thinks a shiney medal from winning a popularity contest only the cool, rich kids are allowed to enter somehow validates NWH. That's like wanting your Pizza to win a Best Salad contest. Sure they are both foods, and Pizza deserves its own medal and recognition for being delicious too, but why do you need to lobby that Pizza must also be seen as healthy? Pizza doesn't need to be seen as healthy equal to a salad for people to understand its worthy to be eaten, and NWH doesn't need Best Picture to be more popular world wide for years to come than whatever movie does actually win.

NO WAY HOME doesn't need once prestigious, now mostly meaningless awards to shine. It's doing just fine.

@ElricReturns - There it is, the customary who cares about Oscars comment. And I say the same thing as I always do. Clearly the filmmakers, the ones who actually worked on these movies do care. Isn’t it obvious by now that they do want the validation from the most prestigious award ceremony? Who cares that you don’t care?

I kinda think Tom Holland's attitude towards the success of this movie and the audience's reaction to it being rewarding already is the best.

Sure it is a commercially successful movie, but an award nomination is not changing anything about the success it already is.

Stopped caring/watching the Academy Awards (or any awards show for that matter) years ago. Their opinions no longer matter to me in any way.

You really think people should have learned by now 🧐😱🙄🙄🙄🙄 Oscar’s and golden globes do not take comic book movies seriously animated movies yeah almost sure thing be nominated Oscar’s and golden globes are rigged only reason comic book movies get nominated if actor or actress in movie have died after movie has complete that is big name in Hollywood .,

Dark knight that movie got nominated and won because of heath lesger death after movie he was still alive it would not have made list

The Oscars are for the rich elite folks who hate progression in society. The same folks who vote against employee rights and raises in favor of job cuts. The boomers hate change and will live to 100 years old in positions of power to prevent progress.
