Spider-Man: No Way Home was the eighth and final of the web-slinger's movies to be re-released in theaters on "Spider-Monday" yesterday, but how did its box office haul compare to those past efforts?

Yesterday was the final Spider-Monday, with Spider-Man: No Way Home swinging back into theaters as part of Columbia Pictures' 100th anniversary celebrations. 

The movie, originally released in 2021, brought together Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield for what proved to be arguably the MCU's most spectacular team-up to date (it was also the best use of the Multiverse we've seen in this Saga). 

Opening in 466 theaters across North America, it earned $475,000 yesterday, making it the highest-grossing instalment of the Holland-led Spider-Man trilogy during these weekly re-releases. Three years ago, it grossed over $1.9 billion at the worldwide box office by the end of its run. 

Here's how the movies compare based on their respective "Spider-Mondays" from highest to lowest grossing: 

1. Spider-Man 2 - $809,000
2. Spider-Man 3 - $760,000
3. Spider-Man - $683,000
4. The Amazing Spider-Man - $511,000
5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - $500,000
6. Spider-Man: No Way Home - $475,000
7. Spider-Man: Homecoming - $285,000
8. Spider-Man: Far From Home - $265,000

Theaters aren't in the best shape right now and the fact studios have had to resort to frequent re-releases like this says a lot about how well 2024's movies are performing from a financial standpoint. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga recently underperformed, meaning Dune: Part Two remains the year's highest-grossing title. 

As you might expect, all eyes are on Deadpool & Wolverine to make things right and be a box office hit. Tracking data still hasn't been revealed, but it can surely crack $1 billion given the excitement surrounding it.

Nonsense, depending on the releases, I go to the theater multiple times each month and it's always a good crowd.

people just don't care about this lame Spider Man

Theatre's have been doing fine, folks just want good movies and fun events like Barbieheimer

@KaptainKhaos - Numbers suggest otherwise regardless you personal exp., Box office last year was still over 20% below 2019 and overall box office up until now this year was over 20% down on last year with the combined takings of the top two films over the recent holiday weekend half what Little Mermaid pulled in on it's own over the same period last year...

Barbenheimer was an exception and not reflective of the overall norm for how well the box office has been doing the last few years. It is fair to have a view that one specific iteration or film related specificaly to Spider-man is better or worse than another but is true that "Theaters aren't in the best shape right now" in general overall trends related to total ticket sales/box office numbers.

Of course we have to push the narrative people aren't going to the theaters to justify f@#$ disney re-releases not doing as well as Sony re-releases.

Is it really that unusual to say that people are less interested in going to the movies again for movies that are more recently released in theaters? Meanwhile we have movies that haven't been in theaters for multiple decades and...oh look. Those did the best.

Kinda surprised how well it still did given it’s the most recent of the films but I guess that’s the power of nostalgia…

Plus I know that it seemed like a fun theatrical experience for a lot of people due to moments of the 3 Peter’s interacting & such so I could see some trying to recapture that aswell.

Anyway , I still like the movie a lot especially in regards to Peter’s arc…

It beautifully imo ended this chapter and arc of growth & maturation for MCU Spider Man through his 3 films (aswell as CW ,IW & EG) and made me excited to see the future of the character!!.

The Holland movies are more recent, so there's no need to see them again so soon when they were already in theaters only a few years ago.
But that wouldn't fit the narrative here obviously.

@dagenspear - Doubt any would say there haven't been issues, doesn't negate that a film all were able to watch on the big screen only a couple of years ago isn't as likely to draw as many as one that was last realesed a couple decades back.

Or are you saying there wasn't issue with SM3 and TASM2 such that they both made more on re-release than No Way Home that had both those version of Spider-man in?

I mean I loved the first two Spider-man movies and the first TASM, the last of each of those incarnations however were seriously flawed such that no way anyone being honest should be able to argue NWH wasn't miles better (even if it still had issues).

@Apophis71 - I'm being honest when I say I don't think NWH did a lot better. Some things worked, others didn't to me. I'm saying I think it's not out of the question to suggest that NWH's quality was lacking as it is mostly using other movies characters and their stories (some of which I think were already done in more character based ways in their previous movies) as a way to sell it and that was what the movie mainly had going for it, other elements lacking, and it may have had a hand in why it didn't do as well, maybe. Stronger than TASM 2? Sure I think that. Stronger done than SM3? Maybe cleaner in some ways, but I think SM3 had way more going for it even if I think it was messy.

Raimi/Maguire Spider-Man is the greatest of all time and everyone knows it.

Garfield and Holland's movies sucked, and the only reason anyone went to see No Way Home was for Maguire/the Raimi villains.

@HermanM - Agreed. A weaker NWH that features Maguire but no Garfield could've existed. But nobody would care if it had been Garfield but no Maguire. Having them both was the best possible scenario.

@TheMetaMan - I for one can’t stand how he gives his opinion like it’s a fact and that if you don’t agree with him, than you’re wrong. It’s quite sickening. You can find faults and positives in all these movies . When spider-man 3 first came out, people generally disliked it. Spider-man 2 was beloved but in my opinion, it took some inspiration from Superman 2. Not an exact copy but some similarities, especially with the whole losing powers and then gaining them back. Don’t get me wrong, I like spider-man 2 and the trilogy in general, but everyone has their favorites and they wouldn’t be wrong.

@Epc11223 - Yeah I get what you mean about the other guy. That’s most people these days. Entitled, highly opinionated and unwilling to accept the opinion of others. Yes Spider-Man 2 is heavily influenced by superman 2. The themes are parallel to that film although I’m not big on superman 2. I get confused between the Richard Donner cut and the theatrical version lol. Out of the original superman-reeve movies I like the first one the most it’s so iconic. A timeless classic.

@TheMetaMan - it’s a shame people act that way like their opinion means more than others. Especially when comics and comic book movies essentially is art. I used to absolutely love Superman 2. Superman 1 and Superman 2 is what got me into Superman so many years ago. Love how it’s essentially one long movie but definitely prefer Superman 1 over Superman 2. I was always surprised that spider-man 2 got so much love and people didn’t see it as ripping off Superman 2. I guess at the time it was just exciting to see spider-man on the big screen because it was a novelty and maybe it was a younger fan generation who didn’t really see Superman 2. Just speculation on my part.

@Epc11223 - It’s because the original Superman movies are outdated and to many they are redundant. People basically moved on from the Christopher reeve movies. Everyone acknowledges him as the OG superman and the original movie as the blueprint for textbook superhero extravaganza done right because it was the first live action comicbook movie brought to life back in the late 70s. Fast forward to the late 90s, early 2000s and you have blade, Xmen and eventually Spider-Man. Spider-Man was a huge success at the time and then came Spider-Man 2 which soared brightly at the box office, critical acclaim was strong.

The original Spider-Man trilogy has so much going for it. We also have to consider smallville as another factor that contributed to the live-action version of superman. When I was watching smallville 20 years ago I certainly wasn’t thinking about the original superman movies because they were past their prime so to speak and when Spider-Man 2 came out, superman 2 was the last thing on my mind. I was in awe of doctor octavius, the fantastic train sequence, Harry discovering Spider-Man is Peter Parker as well as MJ. That crazy non-bloody but absolutely thrilling sequence in which doc ock slaughters all those surgeons in the operating theatre. Spider-Man 2 has so much going for it. Unless you are a film analyst, fanatic or avid comicbook fan you will fail to see the parallels between Superman 2 and how it borrows heavily from that film. Which is basically 75% of the audience.

Out of curiosity how would you rate Man of steel? It’s my favourite superman film by far but I know I’m in the minority when i say this lol.

@TheMetaMan - Superman is my favorite superhero so I’m always comparing new versions to the Christopher reeve movies. I’m such a huge fan that I can enjoy on some level any version, even Superman 3 and Superman 4. So when I watched smallville, I did enjoy it, but I kept wanting him to be Superman. Didn’t think it would just be the very last scene. I was disappointed that it was essentially a Superman show but without the suit. I think because I have seen Superman 2 so many times, when I saw spider-man 2 it just reminded me so much of Superman 2. Definitely enjoy Spider-Man 2, and the trilogy but it def had parallels to Superman 1 and 2. As for man of steel, I’m in the minority too and find it does more right than wrong. I enjoy that movie so much and don’t get the hate. It’s not perfect, some of John Kent’s scenes I have issues, wish there was more Superman, etc. but overall i enjoy the movie. I do get how in the beginning of the movie when he helps people he’s Superman already just without the suit, but I like seeing the suit. Even though I thought the suit in man of steel was a little too dark at times. I think man of steel aged better than when it originally came out because they were expecting something like the Christopher reeve movies but it was more like smallville. I think because of Batman v Superman and justice league, the general consensus is a want of a Superman to be more like Christopher reeves version and some of the more well known Superman comics. But yeah, I’m a fan of Superman and can like parts of just about any version, I understand I’m a bit bias though. 😊

The recent SM films feel more like stepping stone content. That’s why. TASM movies are a little like that but not as much.

This is why I’m torn between Sony giving up the rights and keeping the IP to make an a new isolated SM series one day.
