SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME - Kevin Feige Reveals Why Certain Characters WEREN'T Brought Back For Cameos

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has weighed in on why a couple of important characters from the Spider-Man franchise's past didn't make it into No Way Home despite the appearance of some big names.

WARNING: SPOILERS for Spider-Man: No Way Home follow!

Spider-Man: No Way Home features the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's versions of Peter Parker, not to mention a whole sinister quintet of villains from the franchise's past. However, there are a couple of big rumoured cameos that don't happen, including Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane Watson and Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy.

Both were supposedly "confirmed" to appear courtesy of online scoopers, though the actresses later denied plans for any sort of return in various interviews.

There is some disappointment online that we didn't get a glimpse into Peter's happy ending with Mary Jane Watson (Gwen showing up never really made much sense), and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked why neither character was used in an interview with The New York Times

"When people see the movie, they will understand," he stated. "It's about the story. It was a big goal for all of us - Amy and Jon [Watts, the movie's director] and our writers, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers - that Peter Parker's senior year in high school didn't get lost amid the insanity that ensues thanks to his encounter with Doctor Strange. That easily could have happened. And that's the reason there's not another 20 people in the movie."

Having seen Spider-Man: No Way Home, it does make sense that neither MJ or Gwen show up. We never actually visit the homes of those alternate Spider-Men, so shoehorning in a couple of extra cameos wouldn't have been what's best for the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios movie.

Plus, there's nothing to say they couldn't appear elsewhere down the line. Stone hasn't really said much about playing Gwen again, but Dunst recently expressed interest in reprising her MJ role.

Never even f*cking crossed my mind that we could've had Emma Stone's Gwen and a reunion with Andrew.

Could've made for SUCH a powerful moment, one last goodbye.

Oh God...chills...

They could've showed them randomly in the streets or something getting transported back. Wouldn't they have come into the universe for knowing who Peter is??? Could've just been a cameo. They probably would be walking around the streets trying to figure out what to do

But I understand why they wouldn't do that I guess

I think they had more than enough cameos. Anyone else, the movie would've just turned into Space Jam

Having Gwen showing up would be too much. I would love to see Emma Stone playing Spider-Gwen with Andrew's Spidey down the line. But having this reunuion in this film would be too much. There was no space for such a big moment. I mean, in case Gwen appeared, she would not be aware of her demise and the situation would be really awkard with Peter.

But hey, bring them back in the future!

Oh man, I really was hoping for Bryce Dallas Howard to return as Gwen Stacy

Honestly having a scene of each Peter being in their world's again for like 20 seconds each would have been good. Like maybe having Tobey go home to an MJ either with a child or pregnant. And Andrew could be maybe visiting Gwen's grave again. Wouldn't have taken much time and I don't personally think would have taken anything away from Tom's story
