Spider-Man: No Way Home has broken countless box office records, but Sony Pictures has yet to share any official footage of those big moments. As a result, you've probably seen a lot of bootlegs online, filmed by people sitting in the back of the theater, camera in hand. That's obviously illegal, as is uploading the recording to torrent websites (why anyone would want to watch a "CAM" copy, we don't know).
Now, anyone who did decide to download a Spider-Man: No Way Home torrent might want to start worrying. According to MUO, instead of receiving a copy of the movie, many people have instead downloaded cryptocurrency mining malware. This Monero miner sends money into the hands of criminals and is likely to cause severe hardware damage to your CPU and GPU as they mine for crypto.
The torrent file reportedly identifies itself as "spiderman_net_putidomoi.torrent.exe." Or, translated from Russian, that's "spiderman_no_wayhome.torrent.exe." It will add exclusions to Windows Defender and many other anti-virus programmes that will allow it to run unabated, leaving you with a slowed-down computer that could potentially stop working altogether.
Monero is most often used by criminals on the dark web, so if your computer has been affected, there could be other consequences down the line as well. It's become commonplace for movie torrents to be infected with malware, so you're probably better off heading back to the theater or just waiting for Spider-Man: No Way Home to be released officially on Digital platforms.
