SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Overcomes Competition From SCREAM To Remain #1 At The UK Box Office

Scream may have dethroned Spider-Man: No Way Home at the North American box office this weekend, but that wasn't the case in the UK because the web-slinger just spent its fifth weekend in the #1 spot.

It's rare we share updates specifically relating to the UK box office, but the country is quickly becoming one of the most important international territories for major studios (especially with China freezing out the vast majority of American blockbusters). That's particularly evident from Spider-Man: No Way Home's performance there, as it just spent a fifth weekend at #1.

Earning a mighty £3.2 million ($4.3 million), its UK total has now risen to £84.1 million ($114.2 million). As a result, the wall-crawler's latest big screen adventure has topped Titanic and Star Wars: The Last Jedi to become the seventh biggest movie of all time at the UK box office. Now, Spider-Man: No Way Home is gearing up to dethrone Avengers: Endgame (£88.7 million).

What makes this result particularly noteworthy is that the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios movie was able to fend off competition from Scream. Paramount's horror sequel was in second place with a solid £2.4 million, while The King's Man was back in third place with £627,445 to take its UK total to an only okay £6.4 million.

Belfast and Nightmare Alley are set to be released in the UK on Friday, but short of a surge in interest in Scream, we wouldn't be surprised if Spider-Man: No Way Home stays at #1 for a sixth weekend.

"Spider-Man: No Way Home is the greatest Marvel movie ever made. Period," we said in our review last month. "As epic as it is emotional, this is not only a perfect blockbuster, but Spider-Man’s wildest, funniest, and most awe-inspiring adventure yet. It's a Marvel masterpiece."
