SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star Andrew Garfield Admits To Initially Thinking The Movie Was A "Stupid" Idea

Andrew Garfield's return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home has ended up being one of the most celebrated parts of the movie. Since the blockbuster arrived in theaters last December, fans have taken to social media to make it clear they want Sony Pictures to give the actor another shot at playing the web-slinger again with the #MakeTASM3 hashtag.

It's no great surprise that Garfield had reservations about suiting up again, of course, and he shared some of those during a fun interview on BBC's The Graham Norton Show

Asked by the host if playing Spider-Man again felt like a "high-risk thing to do," the actor responded by saying, "Yeah, it was a...stupid idea [Laughs]. It was a really, really scary thing to attempt, yeah!" Given his age, Garfield also had to stop and think about donning a spandex suit again.

"Especially just the costume," he acknowledged. "A 38-year-old man in a spandex - you know. They are [unforgiving]. It was intimidating, very intimidating."

In the video below, Garfield also tells that same story about sneaking into a theater alongside Spider-Man: No Way Home co-star Tobey Maguire to see firsthand how audiences reacted to their return. It was a very special moment for fans, and while the Oscar-nominee is having fun joking around here, he's previously expressed interest in once again playing the wall-crawler if it feels right.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters.

I'm just so glad they were able to convince both of them to come back. Cause even if one of them said yes, but the other said no, it would've been a flopped idea.

Money talks too.

I mean Doc doing a stupid spell that creates 7 new movies AND the inclusion of a magic easy bake oven IS stupid. But Garfield certainly wasn’t the problem.

Interesting. Maybe he wouldn't be into a spin-off, after all.😂 Both Garfield and Holland have talked about, them seeing Peter Parker as a young adult. But if there's billions of dollars that can be made, that opinion can change real quick.🤑

NWH was really talked about on here like it was a disaster waiting to happen right up until release, so I can only imagine what it would've been like for an actor who'd actually been in a widely panned Spider-Man movie to dip his toe back in for *this* particular story

Oddly enough, this really was a movie that shows how a lot of the things we traditionally complain about in these movies (too many costumes/fan service/villains/characters) are really byproducts of scripts that try to do too much, because the NWH story is actually told in a fairly small scope, and works by using the various characters to build on the core rather than create too many tangential threads
