SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star Tom Holland Clarifies Reports About His Contract Including Future MCU Cameo

When Disney reached a new agreement with Sony over Spider-Man, it was reported that the deal included a solo movie and a cameo. Now, Tom Holland has clarified things, but you might not like his answer...

For what felt like an eternity (but was really just a few short months), it appeared Tom Holland's Spider-Man would be leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thankfully, Disney and Sony Pictures were able to work things out, and it was revealed that the wall-crawler would stick around for one more solo movie and a cameo appearance in a future Marvel Studios project.

The Hollywood Reporter recently asked the Spider-Man: No Way Home star whether he knows which MCU movie he's slated to return in, but Holland was quick to clarify things.

"Yeah, that’s not accurate at all," he stated. "The new deal that was struck up was this understanding between the two studios that should Marvel want me to appear in one of their movies, then it would be an open conversation. I don’t think it’s as black and white as, 'I have a three-picture deal with Marvel and a three-picture deal with Sony.'"

"It’s just this open conversation and open dialogue between Mr. Iger and Mr. Rothman."

Unless Holland is deliberately trying to throw us off the scent, it appears his Spider-Man future isn't as set in stone as we thought. Some believe he's legitimately keen to move on from the role, though it feels a lot like this could be a public negotiating tactic to secure a deal that reflects how valuable Peter Parker has become to both Disney and Sony in recent years.

Only time will tell what the future holds in store, but for now, it sounds like the actor is going to take a well-earned break from playing the webbed wonder.

He'll be back. That's no way he'll walk away from the franchise.

@Bluesman - I wouldn't be surprised if they give Tom 5 or so years off to make other pictures and to let Miles and the other Spider characters shine, then he will come back for a few more films.

Imagine if Downey and Evans came back for more films 10 years later. I think they are planning ahead for that. For the first time give an intentional break to everyone, to then bring the same cast back for more. I could see this young cast specifically being down for such an idea.

He obviously wants and needs a break. In a lot of his recent interviews, He really doesn’t sound like he want to be Spider-Man for too much longer.

@micvalpro - From what I keep reading, he has jumped from one role to another three or four films in a row without evening having a week off between them.

That would make many people just want to stop.

I’d be sick of talking about this if I were him

Why people listen to what Holland has to say anymore is beyond me. He alludes to things constantly, he used to give spoilers on everything now he denies any knowledge.

We get it. Just keep playing Spider-Man it seems to be the one movie of yours that does well.

I am sure he will stick around but for the time being he'll be on a break regarding his time in the MCU. This is Spidey's last adventure in high school until further notice but we'll meet again.

I could really have used that Spidey vs Kraven movie right about now

@LSHF - I think the good thing is that he hasn't had a classic film career before that.
For him it's classic work schedule now, work during the whole year with a few hollidays in between. Some other actors are pretty spoiled when it comes to alot of free time and good paychecks.

I'm just glad that the previous SM movies have been successfull enough to convince Sony to open up to seeing the deal as more of a "let Marvel revive the IP and then take it back for ourselves completely" as it seemed earlier when the first contract was struck.

We'll see where this goes, I have very little trust in Rothman, Arad and Pascal but I deeply hope that they see reason.

@Blergh - Agreed. And I think by now Amy and the Sony heads know if they pull Spider-Man from the MCU, fans are going to shit all over them in e-mails, Twitter postings, and so on.

"Unless Holland is deliberately trying to throw us off the scent, it appears his Spider-Man future isn't as set in stone as we thought"

...I said it from the beginning... don't trust a word from Pascal... wait until Feige and Holland confirm there is a new trilogy. The mere fact that she says its a 'trilogy' helps to ruin the suspense of the very first movie coming out whether Parker will return for the next... Feige has learned this painfully with Spiderman, etc being talked about before Endgame was out... so people knew that they would be returning even though they were dusted in the snap
