SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star Tom Holland Has Been Approached To Host This Year's Oscars Ceremony

We're a month away from seeing Tom Holland back on the big screen in Uncharted, but 2022 is shaping up to be a potentially massive year for the Spider-Man: No Way Home as he's being eyed for the Oscars.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that this year's Academy Awards will have a host. The 94th edition of the Oscars is set to air on ABC on March 27, and will be the first show since 2018 to actually have someone presenting thanks to restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the trade, Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland, who recently expressed interest in hosting the Oscars, has been contacted by the academy to explore the possibility of him taking the job.

How did that come to be? Well, last month, the actor was asked if he'd be interested given his background in singing and dancing. Initially, Holland said he's "just too busy right now" and is committed to promoting Uncharted and shooting his role in Apple TV+'s The Crowded Room. However, moments later, the MCU veteran backpedalled and said, "You asking me about the Oscars - you’re the first person to bring that up - and I’m sitting here going, ‘Of course, I would host the [frick]ing Oscars!'"

"I just went to the bathroom and I was looking at myself in the mirror and I was like, ‘What kind of [frick]ing idiot wouldn’t host the Oscars?’ So yeah, if they ask me to, I would, and it would be very fun. I would really enjoy it." As for whether Spider-Man: No Way Home co-star and girlfriend Zendaya could join him, Holland added: "I could run it by her. But as for her answer, I’m not too sure."

Sony Pictures is pushing hard for the latest Spider-Man movie to receive a "Best Picture" nomination at the Oscars, so it would certainly be appropriate for Holland to be on hand as host. Chances are the studio will also look to secure the British actor a "Best Actor" nod, and with No Way Home credited for saving the box office (while earning heaps of critical acclaim), it could be his and Marvel's year.

Would you like to see Tom Holland hosting this year's Academy Awards?

The issues of ratings and waning interest are why the Oscars are always going to need the MCU way more than the MCU will ever need the Oscars

@OmegaDaGrodd - Yesterday I was on Facebook and a girl said she did not like the eternal’s, worst marvel movie. My sister agreed. And then this guy was like no way it’s worse than infinity war. And I said are you serious? And he said I hated infinity war so much that I still haven’t watched endgame. And get this, he says “but I am a DC guy”🤦🏽‍♂️
He really said that. And I was like well that explains it. He thinks he’s a DC guy. He isn’t. He’s a marvel hater. I know that because I actually am a marvel guy, but I am far from a DC hater. I can appreciate their movies, Though of course I am one of those that likes their solo movies better than their universe. Instant classics like Catwoman, Jonah Hex, Green Lantern

I mean TDK, Joker, and no doubt, The Batman.

The guy said Zack Snyder’s justice league is the best superhero movie ever made. I said I haven’t watched Zack’s Magnum Doofus yet, but I will eventually.

But yeah I don’t think I will. Kind of an infinity war/endgame situation ya dig 😉

If he wears his spider man costume on stage and plays it in character as Peter then I'm totally down.

I find Tom incredibly likeable but don’t you have to be funny to host the oscars? If No Way Home proved anything, it was how funny Garfield’s Spiderman was, and how Holland’s is more like Maguire’s in that he’s incidentally funny because he’s an awkward teen but he himself isn’t actually funny.

@connorblaze - Tom is a great dancer with a lot of charisma. The opening usually has some song-and-dance aspects to it. If they center it around a musical theme, he could definitely work with that.

As a film lover, The Oscars were like my Super Bowl. But I haven't watched it in years. It's just not enjoyable anymore.

Could be fun. Especially if Garfield and Maguire were with them there too. Now then I would definitely watch it

Don’t do it Tom. They’re only doing that because they want free publicity and people to watch. They almost did the same after endgame came out

Don't do it! You have more class than that.

They need to get Ricky Gervais to do it.

Interesting (if true) that they would want all the viewership from these blockbusters, but continue to not acknowledge them.

I'd imagine they must be throwing a whole lotta money at him, but even if he agrees I'm still not watching. The Oscars have been a joke for a while now.
