SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star Tom Holland Jokes That He's "Going To Win An Oscar For This Movie"

Sony Pictures recently kick-started its Academy Awards "for your consideration" campaign for Spider-Man: No Way Home, and star Tom Holland has now joked that he believes he's going to win an Oscar.

We recently learned that Spider-Man: No Way Home could be a serious contender for an Academy Awards nomination, and Sony Pictures recently shared a pair of "for your consideration" posters for the movie featuring shots from a couple of the movie's more emotional scenes.

Whether the Spidey threequel manages to secure nominations in any of the major categories remains to be seen, but if comments from star Tom Holland are any indication, he's not reading too much into what many feel is little more than online speculation.

While speaking to THR about the future of the franchise and his take on Peter Parker, the Uncharted actor sarcastically said he believes he's going to win Best Actor for his performance.

"There have been conversations about the future of Spider-Man - whether it would be me, I'm not too sure yet. Maybe I'll be a producer or something, I don't know. I do know that I love this character, and I would be sad to say goodbye. But I have achieved basically everything I wanted to achieve as this character... I really think I'm going to win the Oscar for this movie. So there, it's great."

Holland is clearly joking around (the reaction from his co-stars says it all), but the notion of No Way Home earning some Oscar love is not as far-fetched as you might think. The Multiverse-spanning adventure was one of the most acclaimed films of 2021, and has also been widely credited with rejuvenating the box office by taking in over $1 billion worldwide during this "Pandemic Era."

Granted, a Best Actor nom for Holland is probably a long shot (not that he doesn't deserve some recognition), but Best Picture is not outside the realm of possibility.

This year's nominations are expected to be announced on February 8, 2022. Do you think Spider-Man: No Way Home should be among them?

@Typhoon20 - In fairness by most accounts he was a big part of getting Disney and Sony to renegotiate their deal after it ended with the release of Far From Home. He may well be a big part of why No Way Home got made, at least in the form that it currently exists in, and why Spidey has a future in the MCU.

I think he's gotten much better as an actor, and in the role. Definitely his best work since The Impossible, started to think he was just a bad actor after seeing Cherry but I guess it was just very bad miscasting. Feels like Uncharted's gonna be another case of very bad miscasting.

He's achieved everything he wanted to do with the character? But the ending of NWH felt like a brand new beginning for the character!

Let's see Peter in college! Figuring out how to make a living and afford things like rent and stuff! Let's see him deal with being a truly solo superhero for the first time! What it's like being young and alone in a big city like NYC! Let's see him grow up and eventually become a mentor to Miles, bringing his arc full circle!

There's so much more to do with this character, they've barely scratched the surface!
