SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star Tom Holland Regrets Not Contacting Andrew Garfield After Replacing Him

As spectacular as it was to see Tobey Magure return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it's Andrew Garfield who has been receiving the most attention since the movie was released. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 may not have been a particularly good sequel to Marc Webb's solid first instalment, but the actor was excellent as Peter Parker and clearly loved the character.

That's why it stung to see it snatched away from him so quickly, though Tom Holland's sensational work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe made it all too easy to forget what happened.

It's not Holland's fault, of course; Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures decided to take the webbed wonder in a different direction (there had been rumblings that Garfield not attending a Sony dinner in Japan contributed to his abrupt departure). Regardless, fans have now made their hopes for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 clear, and Holland has now shared his regrets on not connecting with Garfield sooner.

"I could not be happier for him. Something I can look back on now with a little bit of clarity and regret is that I never called him when I took over as Spider-Man," the actor told The Hollywood Reporter while doing the rounds to promote Uncharted. "Had someone said to me after my second movie that I was done and this other kid was taking over, I would’ve been heartbroken. So looking back, I wish I had the chance to make amends with him, but this film was our opportunity."

"It was not only an opportunity for him to make peace with the character and the studio, but it was also an opportunity for me and him to have this moment where we realize we could share this thing," Holland continued. "The look on his face when he saves Zendaya [MJ] is totally genuine, and I’m really proud of him. I’m really chuffed that he got this opportunity to win back the world and for people to be reminded that his Spider-Man movies are fantastic and brilliant in their own right."

Just like Sony listened to fans when they demanded Spider-Man remain part of the MCU, it's hard to believe the studio hasn't taken note of the vocal #TASM3 support. What it will lead to remains to be seen, though there has been a lot of chatter online about plans to reunite the three Spider-Men.
