Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to swing into theaters in The U.S. this weekend (it's already playing in some locations), and the latest box office projections indicate that the third solo outing for Tom Holland's Friendly Neighborhood Wall-Crawler could be the first "pandemic era" blockbuster to do pre-COVID numbers.
The Sony Pictures threequel is expected to climb as high as $300 million worldwide over the course of its opening weekend, and it's off to a spectacular start.
No Way Home webbed-up £7.6 million (over $10 million U.S. dollars) in The U.K. and Ireland after just one day on release. These are impressive numbers under any circumstances, and by comparison, No Time To Die only managed £4.8 million when it debuted in The U.K. back in October. The Omicron variant is still a concern for many, but ticket pre-sales are through the roof, and this bodes well for No Way Home becoming the first post-pandemic movie to cross $1 billion - without a China release!
In Korea, the movie amassed an estimated $5.28 million, and also opened in France, Russia, Mexico and Italy, so we should have a more in-depth international BO update for you later on today.
The Jon Watts-directed superhero adventure has received an overwhelmingly positive response from critics thus far (you can check out our latest review here), and currently sits at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
