Although Spider-Man: No Way Home finally found some competition in Paramount Pictures' Scream revival, there doesn't seem to be any stopping Sony Pictures' beloved superhero threequel as it continues to dominate the box office.
Spidey's latest big-screen adventure took in $20.8 million over the course of its fifth Fri-Sun weekend, bringing its domestic 31-day total to $698.7 million. Though Sunday's final figures won't be released until tomorrow, No Way Home will pass $700 million at some point tonight, eclipsing Marvel Studios' Black Panther to become the 4th highest-grossing movie of all time in North America.
The Jon Watts-directed film now sits at $1.625 billion worldwide. This would be an impressive feat under any circumstances, but during a pandemic, it's pretty damn spectacular.
Scream, meanwhile, made $10.1 million on Saturday on its way to a $36 million 4-day opening (you can check out our review here). “This opening has reinvigorated the franchise for fans, while simultaneously introducing it to a whole new generation of new Scream fans,” Paramount’s Domestic Theatrical Distribution Boss Chris Aronson said in a statement.
