Scream may have sliced Spider-Man: No Way Home down to size when it opened last weekend, but the web-slinger has crawled back to the #1 spot during its sixth weekend of release.
With a total of $13.5 million, the threequel's domestic total now sits at an amazing $720.3 million. Scream suffered a 61% drop with $11.7 million, though its 10-day total of $50.6 million is not to be sniffed at. It won't be until Moonfall and Uncharted land in February that we learn whether ticket sales for big budget blockbusters have truly returned to normal or whether No Way Home was an anomaly.
As for that Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios movie, it will need to earn over $40 million to usurp Avatar and become the third highest-grossing release at the North American box office. It's 31% ahead of where Avatar was at this same point in its release, but analysts are uncertain whether it will have the same legs. Either way, it's been an unprecedented success for both Sony and Marvel.
While we have had a couple of new posters recently, there still hasn't been so much as a single image released of those two surprise guest stars. If we had to hazard a guess, that's because Sony wants to make sure the only way fans can see them again is if they pay for that big screen experience.
It's a smart tactic, though we could see a spoilery marketing campaign kick off when that planned "For Your Consideration" campaign begins in earnest a little later this year.
