SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Writer Addresses That Mysterio Vs. Doctor Strange Concept Art From The Movie

Spider-Man: No Way Home writer Chris McKenna has opened up on that concept art showing a battle between Mysterio and Doctor Strange at the Statue of Liberty. Find out what he had to say right here...

Spider-Man: No Way Home saw the MCU's Peter Parker team up with two familiar Variants to battle five sinister villains from across the Multiverse. Many fans have questioned why we didn't get to see the Sinister Six in action, though previously released concept art has shown Mysterio squaring off with Doctor Strange (a hint perhaps that Quentin Beck was once the sixth member).

During a recent interview with IGN, screenwriter Chris McKenna addressed that piece of artwork and put it down to a lot of different ideas being discussed during the early stages of production.

"We've worked on a few of these [movies] now and they'll bring you incredible concept art," he explained. "You're like 'Wow, someone thought this up, and now it's going to be a set-piece.' So when we didn't know what the movie was quite going to be, we were playing around with a lot of different ideas, you're dealing with the Multiverse and a lot of different ideas get thrown around."

"I am familiar with what you're talking about," McKenna continued. "I will say when you open up the Multiverse you get a lot of conversations where anything can happen."

Not revealing that Mysterio really was from another world feels like a missed opportunity. After all, Beck being the mastermind behind the likes of Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus coming to the MCU would have made perfect sense, and that could have explained his presence at the Statue of Liberty. It does sound like this was little more than just a very early idea thrown around, though.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters. Check out that concept art again below:

Stop asking if Beck was from another universe. He didn't have real powers, it was something he made up to justify his sudden appearance.

There was no "other" universe when mysterio was alive because lady loki had not killed he who remains yet

@Vigor - I don't think Lady Loki has anything to do with No Way Home. It's a bit confusing though

@Vigor - Because they were “outside of time”, “when” they killed him doesn’t matter… because there was no “when”. Not that I think he was from another universe, but what you stated does not prove anything.

Would have been great to see at least one villain from the Tom Holland Spidey universe

@MrKeyzerSoze - I initially felt the same way, but none of his villains really needed to be ‘cured’. I still think not having a true Sinister Six was a missed opportunity but a sixth member could have been a new villain that has yet to be seen from Tobey or Andrew’s universe.

Incredible movie regardless, saw it yesterday for the third time.

"Not revealing that Mysterio really was from another world feels like a missed opportunity."

No it doesn't. The whole point of Mysterio, both in the early comics and in FFH, is that he's essentially a fraud, and the MCU put an interesting twist on this by delving into the idea of fake news, media manipulation, etc.

"After all, Beck being the mastermind behind the likes of Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus coming to the MCU would have made perfect sense"

@AC1 - Everything makes perfect to Wilding, because part of being a sub-par, pseudo-journalist is using the same four or five sentences in all your "articles".
