Comics2Film at Mania.com reveal that director Alex Soto will be directing Disney/Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man animated TV series.

Soto has directed numerous episodes of Teen Titans and more recently, Ben 10.

The plot for the series from Marvel is below.

"Ultimate Spider-Man will be a unique journey exploring our favorite web-slinger as he teams up with other fan favorite Marvel Super Heroes in never before seen stories with a new life filled with great challenges, new friends, intense action and character growth," said Eric S. Rollman, President of Marvel Animation.

Along with his new powers, the challenge for the young web-slinger in the new series is balancing his relationships with his friends and family and his super colleagues who can help him gain an understanding of his parent's legacy and his destiny."

Ultimate Spider-Man debuts on Disney XD in fall, 2011

@flame...sadly it was canceled due to all the licensing issues when Disney bought the rights to all the Marvel stuff, and since Sony has the filming rights to it, FOR NOW, so instead of Cooperating with each other, it seemed much easier for Disney to just make a new series based off the Ultimate line.

I'm actually kinda excited for this, I like how we are getting a director that actually has some experience with young audiences. I bet we will get our first showing of both Marc Webbs Spider-man movie and some teaser images or footage in this up coming Comic-Con.

I wonder who are the Fan Favorites. Will it be mostly NY based heroes... Will we see Spidey and Dr. Strange teaming up...or perhaps we may see him teaming up FF once again

@ flames809 it was canceled, too bad great show

even though Spectacular spiderman was a great show i'm still looking forward to this for a few reasons: the show looked like it had better art, crossovers are intended (probably with the black panther series, and the avengers series) which is great to me, and while i wouldn't like to see all of the ultimate series on film it would be a nice change to see ultimate green goblin in this series.. yes the other GG is better but still it would be interesting all i'm saying..., so basicly if they do almost the exact same thing (with crossovers and stuff) as the spectacular spiderman show did, i'll be really good with it...

but it is too bad that spectacular spiderman didn't get just one more season and a season's final episode because where u leave it, there are so many things you can explore with it... too bad a great show has to go...

This might be just as good as 'the Spectacular Spider-Man,' and I love the 'Spectacular Spider-Man'! I agree that this was one of the best animated series to have come in a long time, and most of the stuff now and days is pure shit with a capital S. Wasn't too thrilled when I heard about the cross-overs with the Ultimate universe's characters. I thought that was one of the down falls for the 90's series when it became more about the MARVEL universe than Spider-Man (That and the production having to reuse old shots from previous episodes). As long as they will be helping Peter grow and further his character rather than just be there for the sake of it it might be exciting.

Rest In Peace 'Spectacular Spider-Man' :(

P.S.

@Destroyer14
Thanks for the update bud! :)

@BlackAirsAki87
Same here. He was amazing. (No pun intended) :)

Cameos? Interesting...

I can't believe we gotta wait for the FOLLOWING fall to see this..I want it THIS fall.

@hela...this may not be entirely Ultimates based, because of the mention of team ups, so this may in fact be a melting pot of all the series out there combined into one cool package....I'm very curious about its style..will it look like Ben 10 or Teen Titans...

speaking of which..young justice looks interesting. I'm gonna give it a watch too...is Cartoon Network slowly making a comeback like Lasseter did with Disney...lets wait and see

I'm always up for yet another Spidey cartoon but I'm starting to lose hope. The director of Ben 10 and Titans? This will probably be another train wreck like Titans was. They had better get good animation for this and art style, if it's anything like the lousy Mark Bagley artwork above, then forget about it.

If Marvel was smart, they'd pull a Spidey 2099 show out of their arses and do something similar to Batman Beyond, but do it seriously, no more kiddie oriented garbage.

Gotta agree again with HelaGood, HATE HATE HATE Ultimate Spidey (loves the Ultimates though).

Good article Destroyer!!

Can anybody name ALL the Spidey cartoon series's ever?

StuckInPanels - 6/21/2010, 12:47 PM
@eviltwin...too many.lol. I only know of the one with him, iceman, and firestar and the 90's saban version
Eviltwin
Eviltwin - 6/21/2010, 12:57 PM
@Black Lol too many may be right, but as a fan, I love that there's been a lot. By my count it's a total of 8 series including the new Ultimate coming up. I've seen them all (except for 1981 run, I saw only 1 episode, hard to find), and I loved Amazing Friends and the MTV one the best, hated Unlimited.

1 Spider-Man 1967
2 Spider-Man 1981
3 Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends 1981/82
4 Spider-Man The Animated Series 1994/5
5 Spider-Man Unlimited 1999
6 Spider-Man MTV series 2003
7 Spectacular Spider-Man 2008
8 Ultimate Spider-Man 2011

Where's JoshW on this talkback, lol.
comicb00kguy
comicb00kguy - 6/21/2010, 1:23 PM
Okay, so which Teen Titans did this guy direct? The early seasons, which were EXTREMELY silly, or the later ones where they started being more serious and even doing some of the stories from the comics?

Anyway, it's just stupid that Disney and Sony couldn't work out a deal splitting the royalties to keep Spectacular Spider-Man. I didn't care for the character design on it, but the stories were good.

I'm the opposite of many here. I actually enjoy Ultimate Spider-Man for the most part, but I can't stand the Ultimates.

I can dig it, it seems good to at least try and watch it. I'm in agreement with most here, Spectacular is (thus far) my favorite Spiter Man show to date...catchy tune, good animation (not like that crud we had to swallow in the 90's...gah!! Really, were they trying to do their animation like a Jim Lee drawing, or what? There's a reason that Jim Lee does still-drawings and not animated ones...even Jim Lee can't animate Jim Lee's work!), and a host of memorable cameos.

My only hope is that they stick to classic storylines...and not #u(k them up to 'make it more relatable to our current audience', or some such go-to scapegoat line that is used when the bigwigs realize that their fanbase won't swallow another truckload of crap.

I think Spider-Man: The Animated Series is the best series of all time.
Eviltwin
Eviltwin - 6/21/2010, 3:50 PM
@MTL
For me, the reason I complain about Ultimate Spider-Man is the fact that it exists. Marvel went out and made something for the lazy little tweens and what not so they didn't have to learn about the amazing history that comes with SM and learning about the character. After all the crap years of lousy comics and bankruptcy, Marvel had and tried to do anything to gain readership.

I think The Ultimates (Avengers) is a cool one-off/What If type of comic, but everything after that was a waste.

I absolutely agree that Ultimate SM is well written and consistent, but that's not why people hate it.

@ Ghostpudding-Your point?

@ Anil Rickly-HEY BUD!! Lol, ya may have to catch bits on YouTube, lol.

@ Hamm-I like the writting on Spectacular, but did NOT like the animation and art style. HATED the theme song.

@ DRKNIGHT-You know, it just may be by the sounds of it. B&B is kind of fun, I like it. It could just work for Spidey

elcaballerooscuro92
elcaballerooscuro92 - 6/21/2010, 7:25 PM
@Eviltwin i dont like b&b bot they have good episodes like sidekicks assemble, chill of the night and requiem for a scarlett speedster.

and in titans i liked calling all titans and titans together, but really hated the series for the episode things change.
