SPIDER-MAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Star Christopher Daniel Barnes Open To Returning For SPIDER-VERSE 2

For many fans of the wall-crawler, Christopher Daniel Barnes' Peter Parker is the definitive Spider-Man. Now, he's weighed in on possibly reprising the role in the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel!

Christopher Daniel Barnes voiced Peter Parker across five seasons of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, and many fans would love to see him given the opportunity to reprise the role of the web-slinger. The planned Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel seems like the perfect place for that, of course, and Barnes is definitely open to the idea. 

"That would be great," Barnes told It's Recording Time when asked if he would like to appear in the next Spider-Verse movie. "I've reprised the role several times in video games, so that would be great. If I could do that again, I'd be honoured. I'm getting kind of old to do it, but I'd be happy to play an older Spider-Man."

Spider-Man: The Animated Series aired between 1994 and 1998, and as he mentioned, Barnes would later voice Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and Spider-Man 2099 in Spider-Man: Edge of Time. He also provided the voices for Spyder-Knight and Wolf Spider in Disney XD's Ultimate Spider-Man series. 

There are many iterations of the character he could play in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2, but the version from The Animated Series surely deserves to be somewhere near the top of the list.

It'd be cool to get more Spideys, maybe let Garfield have another go around, but I don't want them to go over-board with the fan-service. Even beyond the incredible animation, the first Spider-Verse is also one of the tightest, best-written CBMs we've ever had.

Would be great to see the live action spidermen unite. Although doubt it will happen

@dracula - Holy shit, I just remembered Oscar Isaac is gonna be in Spider-Verse 2. That dude's busy as hell between that, Dune, the Vertigo "Ex Machina" adaptation, and the new films from Paul Schrader, James Gray & Ben Stiller he signed onto recently (and finished in Schrader's case)

Cool, sure. Again, don't overload it, but if they can find a cool way for him to be in it, I'm down. Always liked his voice for an older Peter Parker

Is Spider-Verse 2 already in pre-production? Or is that delayed because of the 'rona? Because I'm really hyped for this after seeing the first one again last weekend (and I'm looking forward to Spider-Man: Miles Morales even more now too)

Unpopular opinion, he is pretty overrated in the role. Maybe the whole show being on Disney+ and everyone being able to revisit more than just random handful of episodes (since the show to date hasn't gotten a complete physical release, besides Region 2) will change that, but people tend to put TAS on a weird pedestal as one of the best Marvel cartoons and the golden standard of Spider-Man shows, but it really wasn't that good and the voice acting was one of the big flaws. CDB does grow on you as the series goes on, but I wouldn't put him to my personal TOP-10 of Spider-Man voice actors or anything like that.

I would much rather they include him then PS4 Spidey. Love that Spidey but it's too soon for him to be here. This one's already gotten involved with the multi verse, plus CDB is my favorite voice hands down, I still hear his voice when I read comics.


And don't pull the crap of him just being a different spiderman Sony. Make him the one from the 90s series, Disney will probably let you so do it.




PS: The daredevil crossover he had kicked ass.

Yes! If they ever plan on doing the Spider-Verse in the live action department, save Garfield and Tobey for that and use the animated/comic book Spideys for these movies. Otherwise, I think it would feel like too much at once.
