Speaking with The Telegraph about the upcoming and highly anticipated video game, Spider-Man PS4, Marvel Games Executive Creative Director Bill Rosemann opened up about his latest project and how it could potentially be the start of their own gaming universe similar to the infinitely successful Marvel Cinematic Universe constructed by Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige.

There was. I mean, they tacked on that Nick Fury scene at the end of Iron Man but did anyone think it would culminate in The Avengers? Or now Avengers Infinity War? That was a pipe dream. The first intention was, let’s just make the best Iron Man movie. We’re approaching it the same way. This is going to be hard enough. Let’s just make the best Spider-Man game. Let’s do that. The rest will take care of itself. Who knows what the future holds? We just want to make sure each individual game is awesome, is great. Again we don’t want to trap people and contain people. We want to give them freedom.

Despite Rosemann's coyness, and reiterating that he doesn’t “want to put the cart before the horse,” he isn't denying that the fun easter eggs, like the Sanctum Sanctorum, won’t evolve into something more down the road.

Rosemann goes onto explain that the references are to make the player feel as if they're merely a small cog in a living, breathing Marvel clock.

This is Marvel’s New York. This is a Marvel game. It’s not in a bubble. It is the New York that you want Spider-Man in. So yeah, uh, if you’re a Marvel fan coming to play this game you’ll see familiar names and logos and locations and we’re lucky that you’ll see, oh, that is the Sanctum Sanctorum?! It’s not going to be a focus but you’ll be able to swing by it. You’ll feel like, this isn’t just any New York City, I’m in the Marvel universe. This is Marvel’s New York. There will be a lot of elements that will make you feel like it’s part of a larger story.

The creative director is taking it slow, focusing on the task at hand rather than possible future endeavours - exactly how their cinematic counterpart succeeded where other cinematic universes, such as Universal's Dark Universe or Warner Bros' DC Extended Universe, stumbled. This dedication to the game itself rather than a franchise will no doubt excite gamers for Spider-Man PS4 even more.

Would you like to see a Marvel video games shared-universe, similar to the MCU? Which other Marvel heroes should get their own video game?

As a Marvel fan, I'm sad to say that the Arkham games will never be topped. I played the first three in the series recently to get all the riddles and they're still amazing.

@jj2112 - "Arkham games will never be topped"

In the span of our existence you honestly believe there will never be better superhero game better than the Arkham games? I agree they're good games (the first two especially) but there will be better games. Hell Spider-Man PS4 might be it and even if it's not there will be many games to come that have the potential of doing so maybe even by Rocksteady themselves.

any other game would have completely different looks/mechanics. I don't see it.

@ODanil - Looks? nah, if they use the same engine and similer models, it would be very similer. Lets say a black panther game in wakanda, would probably look similer to a spiderman again.

I don't see the point, there not really actors or anything, and them mixing would be the same as seeing two characters in emh. I mean yeah do it...but i don't see the point in getting ooopla about it.

Black panther the game would be nice. Make it slimier to assassin creed origins.

I can't wait for Spider-Man PS4 Origins a few years after this. It would be nice to play as a school age Peter for once. The only game that lets you do that is Ultimate Spider-Man, and you can't even enter the school.

@Nightwing1015 - what's the problem with that?

@Origame - Nothing really. It's still a great game. I'm just saying I'd love to play through the life a a young Peter in the same way as we have with older versions of the character. And detailed open-worlds are always the best open-worlds. So being able to enter Peter's high school would be great.

I could really really do with an Xbox port announcement for this. This is the Spider-Man I've been waiting years for.
