MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN PC Mod Gives The Game's Peter Parker His Original Face Back

There was a great deal of controversy surrounding Insomniac's decision to change Peter Parker's face in the Spider-Man remaster, but a PC mod has restored the original version of the unmasked wall-crawler.

When Spider-Man was remastered for the PlayStation 5 (just in time for Spider-Man: Miles Morales' release), Peter Parker returned with a new face. A lot of fans of the original game weren't happy, and the backlash aimed at Insomniac was extremely vocal.

For some, it was a silly thing to complain about. For others, however, actor John Bubniak was their Spider-Man. Ben Jordon was cast as the web-slinger to better match Yuri Lowenthal's facial capture, though Peter's youthful appearance wasn't well-received and there were campaigns to restore the character to how he first looked when Spider-Man was released.

That didn't happen, and Jordan is expected to lend his face to Peter again in the upcoming Spider-Man 2.

However, with Spider-Man now available on the PC, gamers have been dreaming up all sorts of mods to improve or change how they experience this adventure. That's included a first-person web-swinging mode, and now, the restoration of Bubniak's Spidey.

It's not a perfect match as the person responsible obviously didn't have access to Insomniac's source code, but even using what little information they had from the PS4 version of the game, we'd say they did a pretty damn good job that you can check out here

The fact that the franchise now boasts a Tom Holland lookalike isn't the end of the world, and we're excited to pick up with Peter and Miles in the upcoming sequel. The game will pit them against Venom - voiced by Candyman legend Tony Todd - and possibly the Green Goblin as well. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a release date and isn't expect to swing into stores before 2024.

Which version of Peter Parker do you prefer in the Spider-Man games? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments section and stay tuned to GameFragger.com for the latest updates on that sequel.

Now I gotta get into pc gaming.

The change in face is so awkward considering we got so used to the character with the original face.

@Origame - mods and emulations are great. There is a Skyrim mod that gives the game a whole new story and dialogue.

Sweet, the Holland face really is terrible for that game.

i swear, if spidey 2 gets unbearable bc of the guy's face... well that would be annoying

Cool! I like the original design more (probably because I played through the entire game like that). I don’t think the new design fits the character’s voice as well.

@MrDandy - I think it would've been fine if that was always the face.

I didn't really care either way, honestly. I play for Spider-Man. I don't care how the face looks under. I don't even watch cutscenes

I prefer the original PS4 version's face but when I replayed the game on PS5 before playing Miles Morales I got used to the new look really quickly. I'd still probably prefer them to bring back the original face for the sequel but I doubt they'll happen so hopefully they'll at least make a few fixes like making him look a bit older and stuff.

I played this game 4 times. One for ps4, once again for the new game and dlc. Ps5 again, then once more for the high fidelity mode. Also Miles twice lol. SM2 will be legendary, but I want to hear more about the Wolverine game

The hair/hairline on the old face is ridiculous, especially in comparison to his face proportions.

Everyone saying it was "perfect" while kicking and screaming about the new face is just weird.

@Kurne - he looked goofy in the original.

@Kurne - The problem people were having was not of the quality of the face but how the face made him look from what i remember reading. While you could say the old face made him look "odd", it did make him look mature and older. While the new face it better graphically and texturally, it makes him look like he is 16. Which is odd in itself given he is supposed to be in his mid 20's. It is not really a big enough issue though to not play that version though. Gameplay, story, voice acting, writing and music is too good.

The face change looked better in Miles Morales. The hair on the original model was awful

The face change kept me from playing the Miles game so far. Probably will be a few years until I play it.

I waited to play till the PS5 release, so I never got used to the first one. From all the screens and clips I've seen he looked kinda weird before, but I found his resemblance to Tom in the PS5 odd because it clearly wasn't MCU Spiderman and wasn't really Tom so I just had a weird disconnect. But the game is so good, it's really a small issue.

The new face is what you get when the boss says "make it look like Tom Holland, but not Tom Holland". He doesn't look bad, he just looks too young. But the games are so good and you barely see his face so it's not a big deal.
