SPIDER-MAN 2 Creative Team Talks [SPOILER]'s Post-Credits Scene Debut And SPIDER-MAN 3 Villain Plans

Spider-Man 2 has been on sale for a week now and, as we first shared on GameFragger.com, the sequel's creative team is beginning to talk spoilers. If you've completed the game, you'll know that it ends with two post-credits scenes, both of which promise to have huge consequences for the franchise moving forward.

In the first, Norman Osborn meets with Doctor Octopus in The Raft and demands that he reveal the secret identities of both Spider-Men so he can avenge his comatose son, Harry. Otto laughs at his old foe and teases his "final chapter," a hint he intends to return and take revenge on Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, senior creative director Bryan Intihar hinted at the extent of Doc Ock's apparent threat.

"People like to ask us how much the franchise is planned out," he says. "I can tell you that scene, in some way, has always been the plan since day one. We knew that the second game would end with that kind of scene."

As for whether this is leading to the Green Goblin's debut - Norman mentions the G-Serum earlier in the game while attempting to save his son - it does indeed sound like that's where the franchise is heading. "We've literally discussed Green Goblin at every game. The fact that you're even bringing up the question shows you how popular that character is."

"If you bring him in, it's kind of like Venom. There are very, very big expectations. So, you want to make sure if you're going to do it, you're going to deliver on it. At the end of this game, his son is now ostensibly taken away from him. So, we felt like we had a really good setup there to potentially kick off another story, if we ever decide to do something else with that character."

The second stinger sees Miles Morales finally meet his mom's boyfriend, Albert, and his daughter Cindy. Yes, Cindy Moon, a character from the comic books better known as the web-slinging superhero, Silk.

Spider-Man 2 narrative director Ben Arfmann tells Gizmodo, "Cindy’s always been a really compelling character in the comics who, similar to [SM1's] Martin Li, hasn’t really gotten a ton of exposure outside of the immediate fanbase. There’s something really exciting about taking a character who we love, who not everybody’s had a chance to meet, and exposing her to a wider audience."

"That was the real drive with her, and figuring out who Insomniac’s Cindy Moon is a really exciting challenge," he adds. "And we also have this interesting complication that [Cindy’s dad] Albert is dating [Miles’ mom] Rio, and we’re thrilled to explore how that creates a new iteration of this character that folks already love."

So, with the Green Goblin and Silk likely set to take centre stage in the threequel, we're guessing Carnage will be the next challenge for Peter Parker and Miles in DLC. That hasn't been announced by Insomniac yet but we're betting it arrives sometime in 2024.

Where do you think the Spider-Man franchise will go from here? Let us know in the comments section.

Best case scenario would be a Spider-Man & Miles vs Carnage DLC, then a second solo Miles game set during Peter's time off, in which they could progress Cindy's story further.

Then a full-blown Spider-Man 3 with Spider-Man, Miles and Silk.

@OrgasmicPotatoe - I kinda wanna see a Venom spin-off instead and see Silk be further fleshed out in a dlc. Carnage could fit into both I guess, or even as another secondary questline anywhere

@bkmeijer1 - I'd LOVE a Venom spin-off, I just don't know how they'd do it considering the finale. (SPOILERS) I think all the symbiotes have died, except we don't know about the one Cletus Kasady had in his containment unit. It may have been spared.

I just doubt that they'll bring Carnage and the symbiotes back again for the next game, so I could see them closing the symbiote chapter once Carnage is dealt with in a DLC/spinoff, and move on to another gimmick in the next game. With Green Goblin and Ock's "final chapter" in the next game, it may not leave enough space for a proper Carnage.

Whatever they end up doing, I'm sure it'll be fun.

@OrgasmicPotatoe - it'll definitely be hard how to continue the story, but they can always find a work around. Can't be worse than a mob boss putting his head on a massive mech (Hammerhead is really the only thing that didn't work for me in the franchise).

@bkmeijer1 - I didn't have a big problem with it, but I admit it was a hell of a stretch. I didn't feel like I was fighting a mob boss when I was against a maniacal headbashing cyborg.

@OrgasmicPotatoe - exactly. It wasn't the worst, but it just fell out of line with the whole mafia stuff we git before

Norman’s sudden hatred toward Peter and Miles felt so misplaced and unearned.

To catch you up, in the final leg of the game Venom has fully taken over Harry’s body, and Dr. Connors flat-out tells Peter to kill Harry. That’s the only way to kill Venom. Norman begs Peter to save Harry’s life.

So Peter manages to kill Venom, but Harry dies. Thankfully Miles has defibrillator hands, and manages to resuscitate Harry. And he’s not some braindead vegetable. Harry is speaking and aware of his surroundings before passing out. So they take Harry to a waiting ambulance, and Norman freaks out, accuses them both of attempted murder, and declares war. They saved Harry’s life, like he asked, and destroyed the black goo monster that killed countless people at Oscorp. I don’t get the sudden heel turn.

I know Insomniac needs an excuse for Norman to hate Spider-man and go full Green Goblin in the next game, but the justification they’re going with feels super paper thin. I suppose I could buy Norman’s out-of-nowhere vitriol if the character was depicted as being mentally unbalanced (like Dafoe in the Raimi movies) but game Norman is depicted as being pretty level-headed.

@santoanderson - Yea, like wtf was that reaction? He literally did what you asked??

@santoanderson - He doesn’t beg Peter - he begs the Spider-Men. Thats why he goes to Otto to find out their identities at the end.

Spidey/Peter has been a thorn in Osborne’s side since the first game. He’s not a fan. Regardless of how Spidey did what he asked, remember Norman likely believes Spidey is the reason Harry has become this monster. He knows he had Harry stable with the symbiote regardless of the risks, the spider-man “takes the suit from Harry” (likely his observation), turns absolutely menacing to the city as his son slowly dies without the suit, then he gets it back to become a monster.

In his view, Spider-Man put Harry in this spot. They’re the reason this happened, and the reason he wants to take revenge.

Spider-Man 2 is so exciting. You get to play as a little deaf girl and vandalize the city with shitty graffiti.

@AnthonyVonGeek - yeah, that and returning mj missions are just some baffling design choices.

In fact basically all of the exclusively miles missions are pretty weak. Really felt like they didn't know what to do with him for most of the game.

@Origame - yep. When I play a game I like to play every side mission and get all the extra bonus stuff I can get but this game is turning me off to playing side missions.

@AnthonyVonGeek - I haven't played it yet, but it sounds like the MJ and Miles parts in the first game. I was annoyed with those, but they weren't long and there were only a few.

I expected more parts like that in the sequel. In the original those parts only took up a fraction of the total game time. I'm assuming that's how it is in the sequel. If so, I'm not real sure how anyone could be so upset by it that it ruins the game for them.

@CorndogBurglar - it's just mj this time around for the stealth stuff. Only benefit is she gets the taser gun right away so you can take the enemies out and make it go faster.

But then you also have a mission as miles' girlfriend making graffiti art. She's deaf so to simulate that they give you an entire mission with her in silence. It's boring af.

Not to mention the bugs.

@Origame - I get it man. I hated the MJ and Miles areas of the first game. I know game developers are trying to put something different in games by doing that, but I just find them annoying.

Having said that, it doesn't ruin the game for me and at the end of the day, when I think back to the first Spider-Man game, I still consider it to be an awesome game and I barely even think about those dumb areas, because they are such a minor, and small part of the game.

I'm guessing this green goblin will have combined elements of several villains.

Since Osborne has been experimenting with both spiders and symbiote, his g serum will probably be based around those. Hence why it gives him the goblin look of green skin and weird face.

His glider, while the tech was shown in the first game, could be based on the now free to take vulture wings. And his armor could be taken from Sable, scorpion, or the upgrades roxxon made to rhino.

Premise wise he's throwing everything he can at the two spidermen.

@Origame - I’m also willing to bet if Carnage isn’t DLC and is in the third game, we’ll also get Red Goblin.
