SPIDER-MAN PS4: Amazing Keyframe Concept Art Features Doc Ock, The Sinister Six, Miles Morales, And More

Spider-Man was released a little over a year ago, and it's fair to say that the game remains one of the best superhero adventures of all time on a console. Pitting the wall-crawler against villains like Mister Negative, Doctor Octopus, and the Sinister Six (all of whom are included in this gallery), it was a lot of fun to play and exactly what fans had been hoping for.

Now, some keyframe concept art from the video game has popped up online, and as well as depicting key moments and characters, we also get to see how a number of locations were created. Among them are the apartments of characters like Peter Parker and Miles Morales, not to mention Doctor Octopus' laboratory. Look closely and you may even end up spotting some Easter Eggs!

So, to check out this Spider-Man concept art, simply click on the "View List" button down below.

Doctor Octopus Vs Spider-Man

A triumphant Doctor Octopus stands tall over Spider-Man in this haunting piece of imagery from the game. The wall-crawler's suit has been left in tatters and he actually looks like he's dead!

Devil's Breath

Doc Ock unleashes that virus on the unsuspecting citizens of New York City. His transformation into a villain proved to be a really compelling part of the game and a very satisfying story arc.

Otto and Norman talk

Norman Osborn is left at the mercy of Doctor Octopus in this awesome piece of artwork. As you'll recall, the game ended with a big hint about what comes next for New York City's mayoral candidate.

The whole crew.

Spider-Man taking on the Sinister Six was a highlight of the game, and while it didn't make up as much of it as we hoped it would, it was still a memorable level with plenty of replay value.

Early look for Doctor Octavius Lab

Peter's workshop

These early designs for Doctor Octavius and Peter Parker's respective laboratories show just how much thought was put into coming up with two locations that played a huge role in the game.

In this action-packed shot, Spidey leaps into action as he tries to stop this armoured vehicle from causing any more chaos in the Big Apple. This was another memorable level in the acclaimed game!

Miles Morales Bedroom.

Miles and Rio Morales living room.

These designs are for Miles Morales' bedroom and living area. While we didn't spend a huge amount of time there, Miles was obviously key to events and will likely be a playable character next time.

Jefferson Davis funeral.

A solemn Miles and Peter stand by his father's coffin after he was killed on duty. This was obviously meant to be Miles' "Uncle Ben" moment and set him on the path to becoming a superhero.

Miles Morales protecting civilians.

Speaking of which, here we get to see Miles standing up for someone after a number of criminals managed to escape from The Raft. Seeing as he had no powers at this point, it's particularly admirable.

Mister Negative wasn't the best choice of villain, but he did make for an effective enough foe. Here, we see him keeping Norman Osborn prisoner as his Inner Demons watch on with great interest.

How cool is this? These pieces of concept art take us through each stage of New York City throughout the game and Insomniac did a great job of showing the passing of time in this adventure.

Normans Oscorp Office Interior

Normans Apartment Interior

These pieces of artwork show Norman Osborn's office and penthouse apartment. One of the missions with Mary Jane Watson obviously revolved around having to sneak through the latter.

From one apartment to another! Peter's home was quite a bit different to Norman's, but it feels exactly like where a character like this would live and features some cool Easter Eggs.

These spectacular shots show the wall-crawler in action. The fighting mechanics in the game were a highlight and arguably up there with the Arkham games in terms of sheer quality.

Many thanks to concept artist Dennis Chan for the artwork contained in this post!

Spider-Man ps4 is better than most of the Spidey films.

Just a great Spider-Man story.

A shameless ripoff of the Arkham games, but I enjoyed it.

@soberchimera - I agree that they ripped off some stuff but combat was not one of them. In fact, Arkham ripped off Spider-Man 2's combat.

@Nightwing1015 - Eh, that's a bit of a stretch, I'm sure a lot of combat games at the time Spider-Man 2 are comparable, but Spider-Man definitely ripped off Arkham's stealth, trophies, side missions, open world, etc. Still liked it though, but if felt completely rehashed from Rocksteady.

@soberchimera - 1) no, they didn't really have a dodge system back then. That was the main detail of the fighting system there.

2) stealth maybe but thats also been used in other spiderman games later on. Starting with shattered dimensions. Granted shattered dimensions copied arkham, but after that the spiderman games were doing trial and error with the system scattered dimensions did.

3) side missions I just don't buy. Even more story centric side missions had been around since gta 3.

4) open world is a staple of spiderman games since spiderman 2. In fact in terms of how the game handles open world works like ultimate spiderman and web of shadows, 2 spiderman games released before arkham asylum. Sure, theres the radio towers, but towers being found to reveal map details is a staple of open world games since the original assassins creed.

In short, calling spiderman ps4 an arkham rip off is such a disservice to both this game and the amazing advancements the spiderman games have done prior to even the arkham games.

@soberchimera - oh forgot trophies. Thats also pretty unfair. Every game uses trophies now. I dont even think arkham started the use of achievements.

@soberchimera - How did they rip off the open world? Rocksteady's is Gotham while Spider-Man PS4 is basically the same New York that's been in every Spidey game for the last 15 years

Finally got around to playing this. Beat it 100% and gotta say, as someone who has completed every Spider-Man game this was incredibly underwhelming.

The padding was crazy. Every other mission you are either playing as Peter, MJ or Miles in the most formulaic boring ass cliched filler missions. Like all Playstation exclusives it tries its best to be an edgy take on the franchise with the whole Aunt may and Black Cat plot.

Uncanny valley like crazy with Peter and Miles. High quality skin textures on wax figures looks terrible. Faces try to be too real without stylizing for a comic accurate feeling. Then the bodies have absolutely no attention to detail with rubber bendy elbows and textured shadows.

The plot of the game feels like it was started as Amazing Spider-Man 3 the movie game, but after the movie was canceled Sony moved production of the game over as an exclusive and poured money in to the graphics. It is dumb and jumps around aimlessly, then introduces a virus outbreak last second to tee up the emotional finale without earning it at all.

And finally, the incredibly pathetic puzzle element literally shoe horned in for more padding. Those hacking mini games are a crime against gameplay and design.

The character designs are video game cliches. Spideys new costume with the white crap is just dumb and lazy. Doc Oc is bald for some reason. That bowl cut is iconic! Shocker looks like a Power Rangers villain. TOMBSTONE! Finally my boy is in a game, but look what they did to him. He is a cringy stereo type. What did they do to Hammer head? Why isnt he Silvermane? Did they even read a comic with Mr. Negative in it? They totally missed the point. Etc.

The only good aspects of the game are the sandbox city, costumes with powers, and passable web swinging.

This isn't even in the top 5 Spider-Man games.

/End rant

@KingCipher - Can't vouch for the rest, but he's definitely right about the the uncanny valley. The character models in this game look weird and creepy, especially in combination with the unnatural movements of their bodies.

Not a fan of the character design for Ock in this game.

"Mister Negative wasn't the best choice of villain"

Gonna have to disagree there. Glad they shone some light on lesser known Spider-Man villains.

@KingCipher - It seemed like a good game had I played it first before Spider-Man PS4. The controls were what bothered me and the acting from the game I couldn't listen to it from Peter or Mary Jane then came in Cage.

Sorry man I got spoiled.

I might have to try Ultimate I did get the ROM for it for Playstation 2 will have to play on my laptop.

IMO, none of the movie versions come remotely close to bringing Spider-Man and the characters from his books to life the way this game did. This and the Arkham series for Batman are the definitive representations of those characters.
