SPIDER-MAN PS4 Concept Art Features Kingpin, Shocker, And Tombstone Alternate Designs

We're continuing our look at concept art from Spider-Man on PS4 today by shifting the spotlight to some of the wall-crawler's villains, with alternate designs for Shocker, Kingpin, and even Tombstone...

Spider-Man is a spectacular entry into the wall-crawler's series of video games and arguably the best one to date. Over the course of this adventure, the wall-crawler meets some familiar allies and goes to war with some fan-favourite villains, and we're now taking a look at all of them with this concept art.

This second batch of artwork puts the spotlight on some of the game's second-tier villains, including Shocker, KIngpin, and Tombstone. All three of them serve as pretty formidable boss battles throughout this adventure but they could have all looked quite a bit different here too based on these designs.

Shocker takes centre stage in a couple of levels in Spider-Man and while the boss battle with Herman is good fun, it's also relatively simple. Here, we see some slightly different takes on his costume.

An Easter Egg in the game confirms that Shocker once wore his classic comic book outfit but he's received an upgrade here and looks pretty damn formidable as a result. Those gauntlets are very cool.

Some drastically different takes here, Shocker obviously could have looked a lot different in the game. In hindsight, it would have been nice to see designs like this used in Spider-Man: Homecoming

Shocker has received an upgrade when we meet him in Spider-Man and that comes courtesy of Mister Negative. While his gauntlets pose a problem for Spidey, the ones on the left look unstoppable!

More crazy alternate designs for the game, not all of these work but you can't fault Insomniac for having the imagining to come up with something totally new and original for this familiar character.

The final design, I think this is hard to fault in all fairness and giving Shocker a helmet of sorts definitely makes sense as that would protect him from the wall-crawler's blows...well, for a little while at least!

Wilson Fisk is the first big bad you face in the game and that comes within the first thirty minutes or so! Below, you'll see a number of alternate designs for the villain, mostly revolving around his attire!

Which do you prefer, white or black? Wilson Fisk has worn both in the comic books over the years with the former arguably his signature look. However, that doesn't necessarily work in this setting!

Work on the villain was clearly a little further along here as we see what is quite clearly some final designs for New York City's Kingpin of Crime, someone we learn was the first baddie Spidey faced.

Insomniac clearly wasn't looking to break the mould when it came to designing Wilson Fisk's face but that goatee sure is interesting; I really don't think it would have worked but it may not have hurt!

The final design for the Kingpin of Crime! Personally, I think he's almost a little too grounded in reality but he still managed to pose quite the threat to the wall-crawler throughout their epic battle.

I wasn't expecting Tombstone to make an appearance in Spider-Man but redesigning the villain was a smart move and making him the leader of a gang of bikers ends up working amazingly well here.

Insomniac clearly played around with a lot of different ideas for the villain, all of which work surprisingly well. In recent years, he's faded into the background to some extent but looks badass here.

It's arguably a little dated but I'm a big fan of the version of Tombstone in the centre here. Those dreadlocks look very unique and I'm sure the wall-crawler would have loved to poke fun at them.

Sruflsne o

Tombstone in the suit on the far right looks pretty damn cool but I even like the complete opposite version on the left! However, I ultimately think the biker look worked best for the villain in this game.

Given how things ended between Spider-Man and Tombstone, it definitely appears as if we should expect to see them cross paths again somewhere down the line, possibly as soon as the sequel.

What do you guys think about these alternate designs for Shocker, Kingpin, and Tombstone? Are they better or worse than what we got in the final game? As always, share your thoughts in the usual place.

Other than Shocker, I loved every design of the Sinister Six and the other villains, random baddies.

I really wasn't a fan of that Shocker outfit, it looked a bit off. Some of the concept art for him looked better than what they went with.

It just isn't Shocker without the comfy yellow quilt. And I hope Nick Spencer brings his Superior Foes Shocker into his Amazing Spider-Man run.

Wish we had gotten some Luke Cage easter eggs. None. Not even in Harlem.

@BlackBeltJones - maybe he's not out of prison yet in this version? IMO there were always going to be things that were left out, but it does suck that he was given the other MCU Defenders got nods

@MNLawyer - yea I mean every other Defender got a nod but him. You could have roped something in with Jessica too.

Maybe when you find Alias its mentioned how Jess's husband is THICK SKINNED.

As much as i hope Mysterio is in the sequel, I hope they continue to do different things than the movies.

Beautiful game, I'm finishing up all the side quest and mini missions now. It was a good Spider-Man story to its own unique insomniac universe.

This game is Spider-Man in at his best in every regard. I enjoyed the story even more than every movie.
Tombstone's appereance surprised me, but I loved him having in a game.
After the concept art, I kinda wish we would have gotten his design with the dreadlocks. It looks awesome.

I’m disappointed that there’s a Shocker chase scene & there’s no reference to this

I was just playing this last night and came across Tombstone. Was not expecting to see him, but this is not the Tombstone I remember. I liked it when he was more of a big albino guy with a flattop, that just dressed all in black suits or track gear - just kind of a big intimidation guy. To me, growing up with the Xmen, the very first person I saw here was Sunder of the Morlocks. He's a dead ringer for him

Alright i started playing the game yesterday and having alot of fun with it. Im having a but of troubke gettingnused to combat and stealth, believe it or not it is different style then the arkham series, so that will take more practice but i cannot deny the web swinging is superb.
