SPIDER-MAN Star Yuri Lowenthal Reveals What He's Hoping To See From Peter Parker In The Sequel - EXCLUSIVE

Insomniac still hasn't officially announced plans for a Spider-Man 2 game, but it's almost certainly already in the works. Here, Peter Parker actor Yuri Lowenthal shares what he would like to see from it.

Insomniac Games surprised fans last year with the announcement that Spider-Man: Miles Morales would be a launch title on the PlayStation 5, and that title blew us all away. However, many fans wondered what this meant for the Spider-Man sequel that was first teased in 2018 with a post-credits scene hinting at plans for both the Green Goblin and Venom.

The spinoff did drop some hints, so the sequel does appear to be happening...we just don't have an official announcement! Of course, when we caught up with Peter Parker actor Yuri Lowenthal last week, we had to ask what direction he hopes to see the wall-crawler's story head in moving forward.

"I keep waiting for my phone to call!" he said when we pushed for details on the Spider-Man sequel. "They’ve had the Miles game, and with COVID, there’s no way we can get into a motion-capture on a grand scale with all the actors right now, so I don’t know. I wish I had more to tell you [Laughs]. I wish I had more to tell me!"

"I’m just happy continuing to play the character, to explore his new relationship with MJ, to explore his new relationship with Miles, and to explore a relationship of him without May behind him to support him when he needed her to," Yuri added. "It’s an evolution of a character Insomniac had already taken a big risk and important choice to evolve past where we normally start with Spidey. I’m curious to see where he goes next."

We're all curious to see where things go next for Spider-Man, especially after those teases. Will we be playing as Peter and Miles, or is the spotlight going to be placed solely on the original web-slinger? Those are questions we, and Yuri it seems, are waiting to be answered, so fingers crossed for an announcement soon (unfortunately, it's likely that COVID has delayed everything on that front).

We'll have much more from Yuri for you soon (the full interview will hit the site tomorrow) but you can find him on Twitter @YuriLowenthal, Instagram @yurilowenthal, and his Cameo (where you can get personalised messages from the actor and the characters he's played), by clicking HERE.

You'd think that'd be easier/safer than live action. I mean, you wouldn't need that many people together. And you'd think they could get shields at least for the mocap since they just need to see the faces for reference.

Pretty unfortunate he hasn't even done any work on the game yet. That means that release is probably waayyyy off. I'm thinking we'll get it in 2023 at the earliest...

@Nightwing1015 - 2023 seems very likely, I can imagine that they’ll be expanding the NYC map from the original game and Miles, as well as using the Miles Morales engine giving that it’ll be a PS5 exclusive. The blessing is that there’s a great base for the sequel to be developed from and built upon, so I’m sure this gives more than enough time for the story.

I’m just hoping for the ability to play as both Peter and Miles

@Nightwing1015 - I absolutely guarantee he has. He's just keeping mum about it.

Yuri Lowenthal voiced Spidey in Miles' game? Wow that is cool.

They should call him to voice a Spider-Man in one of the Spider-Verse films.

Why did they even bother with motion capture at all? Seems like a very expensive and pointless gimmick honestly. It really did not come across as anymore realistic and people generally connected with the version of Peter from the game where his facial features were not transferred anyway.

They need to stop trying to pretend that games need to have realistic looking characters, let alone that we should be able to play a game and tell the exact actor involved.

@Scarilian - Mocap for this game is mainly for their bodies. I don't think they do extensive facial motion capture. At least compared to the likes of the Last of Us, or feature films.

@Boyle360 -
Not even sure why they need it for the bodies though. It just seems like an expensive gimmick. A basic walking or fight can easily be done without the mocap - as it has been done in the past.
