THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Star Andrew Garfield Addresses How That Fight With The Rhino Really Concluded

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ended with the wall-crawler leaping into action for a battle with The Rhino, but we never got to see how the fight went. Now, Andrew Garfield has addressed what may have come next!

While we wouldn't exactly call The Amazing Spider-Man 2's ending one of the all-time great cliffhangers, it's certainly bugged fans over the years. It didn't help that the spectacular final shot of Spidey leaping into action appeared in the trailers, leaving many underwhelmed.

It's certainly fun to think about what came next, but seeing as Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker was still in one piece by the time Spider-Man: No Way Home rolled around, we'd bet on him having bested the powered up Aleksei Sytsevich! During an interview with On Air With Ryan Seacrest, the actor addressed the cliffhanger and confirmed that this was always where the 2014 movie was supposed to end.

"If I remember correctly, what happened after that, was not suitable...because it was so brutal. I have no idea," he joked. "That's where the script ended, and that's where our movie ended. So you get to choose your own adventure with that one. What would you have liked to have seen happen?"

To answer Garfield's question, we're going with "a kick-ass battle with The Rhino!" The Amazing Spider-Man franchise completely overhauled the villain, putting Paul Giamatti in a mech-suit that even ran like a real rhino. As probably one of the strongest foes this Spidey had battled by that point in his web-slinging career, it would have been a blast watching the fight play out on the big screen.

Alas, it wasn't meant to be; however, with fans making their voices heard about Garfield being given another shot at Spider-Man, there's every chance a rematch could happen somewhere down the line.

Spider-Man: No Way Home releases on Digital on March 22 and physical platforms on April 12.

I guess "THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Star Andrew Garfield does not Address How That Fight With The Rhino Really Concluded" wasn't a catchy enough title.

@Razorface1 - well technically he did 100% address it. He provided the information that moment is where the script ends and there is no definitive take on what takes place after, even stated its up to interpretation. Even went so far as to add in his own joke about it being to brutal. Don't know how much more definitive content you need on this topic, unless you only would be satisfied with a canonical answer. There isn't a canonical answer and he explained why perfectly.

The headline however was very misleading in that it implied there was a canonical story beat that was cut.

It was a perfect title for this article had he not included the word "really". And you know it was meant as clickbait because he [frick]ing italicized REALLY.

It was a perfect ending to that film. It wasn’t about him defeating Rhino, that battle would have just dragged it out. It was about him still being Spider-Man after Gwen’s death. Solid ending.

@SummersEssex - I mean there's a couple of problems with that though. They put the Rhino fight in the trailer. The implication was that if people paid money for a ticket, they could see the rest of the fight but that was not the case. It's like if someone put the entire NWH Eddie Brock scene in the trailer for that movie.Plus Rhino was featured in full armor in the marketing for the film.

Secondly, the ending is really hard to enjoy once you realize that if Peter had listened to that speech literally a day later, he would've let Rhino kill a ton of people....again...after he helped him do that at the start of the movie.

@HOTSHOT - I'm generally not one to defend this movie ( since I see it as rock bottom for the franchise) but the trailer aspect of it really isn't a fair criticism. The writer/director overall creative team don't control what Sony chooses to use to sell the film. The marketing team chose to manipulate viewers by teasing a fight that doesn't happen, but I don't hold that against how this scene turned out.

@SummersEssex - You're saying the disappointing mess ending with a disappointing cutoff point was the perfect ending for the movie? Fair enough.

The movie ended with the same shot they ended the trailer with. LMAO

BroskiTroski - 2/27/2022, 5:13 PM
@BIGBMH - Ending a Spider-man movie with him about to fight one of his most iconic villains only to cut it off was stupid from the getgo. Also, you have no way of knowing what the process was. Sony and Marc Webb could've both agreed to put Rhino in the marketing the moment he was chosen to be in the movie. Hundred million dollar films tend to have a broad plan of action, you know.
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 2/27/2022, 7:07 PM
@BroskiTroski - "Also, you have no way of knowing what the process was."

I don't 100% know, but there have been enough directors who have been open about not having a say in marketing to determine what the process likely was. Unless you have any evidence to the contrary, it's not much of a counterargument to say I don't know when you also do not know.
BroskiTroski
BroskiTroski - 2/27/2022, 7:29 PM
@BIGBMH - I ain't making any claims. Anything goes when your character is this big. Marc Webb and other team members could have been involved in marketing choices.

Not saying he had any say, but whether to include a Rhino fight at the end of the movie will definitely force the marketing team in specific directions.
HOTSHOT
HOTSHOT - 2/28/2022, 1:56 AM
@BIGBMH - Isn't Sony notorious for being really hands-on in their own marketing?

Regardless of whose fault it is, it's still an aspect that affects the experience of people watching the film so it's worth criticism. Especially since it's not like what little we did get of Alexi and Rhino was so good that it takes your mind off the tease.

"To answer Garfield's question, we're going with 'a kick-ass battle with The Rhino!'"

That had no place here. It could be fun in a different context, but it wouldn't have served the story to throw in an action scene just for the sake of spectacle as the story comes to its somber resolution. There are plenty of things I hate about that movie, but this isn't one of them.

I thought it was a fine ending. I know most people hated it or wanted to see the fight. But the point was made of him getting his hope back.

God, reading these comments hurts me. I didn't know this many people liked this shitty movie and thought this ending was appropriate. These people deadass farted Green Goblin and Rhino out in the last 10 minutes and people praise it because "the point was made".

What point? That Peter was an idiot who betrayed Captain Stacy's dying request and got her killed with his involvement and it depressed him so much he stopped fighting crime? I love Andrew Garfield and he was the perfect choice who tried to make something good but his Spider-man is so bad.

So if Peter hadn't listened to that terribly written "I'm so gonna die at the end of this movie" graduation speech, Rhino could've rampaged through the city and no one would have stopped him. Lol

This movie is trash. No Way Home showed what Garfield Spider-man could have been and anyone who says "oh now you like the character, where were you in ASM2" don't understand that NWH Garfield Spidey is literally a different character.

@MosquitoFarmer - You’re the one who combed through a thread looking for an argument only to pull some stupid “you’re too afraid” argument instead of defending the movie.

Also, I fail to see what the broad statement was. Me saying it sucks people who defend this ending exist? I don’t think you know what that word means.

@BroskiTroski - Why you're still on about this is beyond me.

But I would have expected someone to read the comments they're commenting on; that's why I expected more out of you. Your point is innert because you didn't even read the thread, evidently.

And I'm not the one who wrote a long darn comment over a movie you don't even seem to like.

@MosquitoFarmer - You’re the one who started this and you are just as capable of stopping as me. Lol You got your argument and now you’re whining about somebody arguing with you. Do me a favor and either stop replying or actually talk about shit. This is boring.

Also, it ain’t that surreal to comment about something you hate from a franchise you love on an article about said topic. That’s kind of the entire point of a comment section, you ninny.

I like to think that he brutally beat Rhino to the point of critically injuring him. His comment about he stopped pulling his punches and he got bitter made me think it was Rhino and petty thieves he began physically wanting to hurt.
