AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Star Dane DeHaan Talks NO WAY HOME Rumors And Whether He'd Return As Green Goblin

After playing the Green Goblin in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, actor Dane DeHaan has revealed whether he was ever approached for Spider-Man: No Way Home and how he'd feel now about reprising the role.

Riding high from the success of Chronicle, Dane DeHaan joining The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Harry Osborn felt like the natural next step for the actor. However, to shake things up, Sony Pictures made some perplexing changes to his character.

For starters Norman Osborn died and never became the Green Goblin, leaving Harry to transform himself into something between the classic and Ultimate versions of the villain. Fans hated the design and, following a clumsy adaptation of Gwen Stacy's death, Harry was imprisoned.

The plan from there had been to resurrect both Norman and Gwen (a scene with the former's head in a jar was cut from the sequel), with DeHaan expected to return as the Goblin in Sinister Six

That was all scrapped when Sony and Marvel Studios teamed up to bring a new Spider-Man into the MCU. However, when Andrew Garfield and Rhys Ifans reprised their respective The Amazing Spider-Man roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home, rumours swirled that DeHaan had also been approached.

Not so, according to the actor himself.

"I have no idea what's going on over there," he tells Screen Rant. "When Andrew was making the latest Spider-Man, I didn't know it was happening, and people kept asking me like, 'Are you in the Spider-Man movie?' I was like, 'What the f*** are you talking about?'"

The threequel didn't exactly need DeHaan when it had Willem Dafoe back as Spider-Man's Green Goblin. And, while the actor would be open to starring in another superhero project, he believes the door has been permanently shut on Harry Osborn.

"I mean, never say never, but honestly, I haven't spoken to anyone that has to do with the producer side of Spider-Man in like, 10 years," DeHaan explained. "So I would be shocked to get that phone call."

"I mean, look, I love playing like comic book characters, superheroes, that kind of thing. I would be very interested in returning to that world in some way. But for it to be Spider-Man related, I would just be absolutely shocked, because, again, I haven't gotten a phone call, an email, anything from those people in 10 years."

Following Spider-Man: No Way Home's release, there was a lot of chatter about The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man 4. There's currently nothing to suggest either project is in the works, especially with the focus still on the franchise starring Tom Holland's webbed wonder.

It would be kind of a heavy lift to bring Dane DeHaan back in that role unless it was an Amazing Spiderman 3 film. Creatively, this would be the second interaction with the Osbournes and presumably Tom Holland's Spiderman despite the fact they have not been introduced in the MCU. They should maybe just cast new members of the Osbourne family and build out from there.

I honestly thought he did well in the role and wasn’t a bad Harry at all…

He was just in a rather messy movie in TASM 2 ( which had its moments but not enough to make it good imo).

I wasn’t a fan of the Goblin design though.

I do hope we see Harry in the next film or apparent MCU trilogy…

My pick would be either Cameron Monaghan or Fionn Whitehead

There weren't many highlights to that particular movie, and he was definitely not one of them.

Had to look it up, but The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is indeed ten years ago next week.

I liked him as Harry/Goblin, although I don't really need to see him return. Unless they make a TASM3, which I think is something Sony should consider instead of more villains.

@bkmeijer1 - Idk about TASM 3 but i would take Raimi’s Spider Man 4 over the SUMC films

@TheVisionary25 - for sure. I wouldn't mind the SUMC villains to be part of TASM3's Sinister Six though. Then atleast there would be something I'd watch the SUMC for

The ASM movies were horrible. He was horrible as the Green Goblin.

Let that abomination stay dead.

Guy was a terrible Green Goblin… ironically I could see him being a decent Joker.

Admittedly for no way home that would've given us something interesting, since Norman was the main villain of that movie and the impact that would've had to see a version of peters best friend become a villain.

Certainly would've worked better than lizard, sandman, and electro, who all basically did nothing.

Good actor and I really liked his version of a detached from reality rich-boy. His Goblin was a little one dimensional but that was the writing. For me Andrew was the closest to my Spidey (Tobey too whingey and Tom is great but a little prepubescent) so I have a lot of affection for the ASM movies.

It's a shame his Goblin wasn't that good because I thought he was a great choice for Harry, especially after seeing him Chronicle.
He was good as Harry too for that matter.

I’m one of the few that loved TASM2, even more than the first one (I didn’t like the look of the Lizard). But I think we need to move on. Bring back Garfield for multiverse shenanigans, but the series should remain dead.

While watching this Spider-Man movie I thought it was weird seeing Dane's really good and serious performance as Harry and then watching Jamie's cartoonish (for lack of a better word) portrayal.

Back and forth between the two, I felt like (at times) I was watching two different movies.

ASM2 is a guilty pleasure of mine. I actually enjoyed it more than the first. I was looking forward to seeing where they would take this series. Oh, well, better luck next time...

I wouldn't call him either seeing how unmemorable and mediocre his character was in that film.
