Growing up a comic book geek, and now comic book freak, back in 2002 I was only 8 Years old, and heavily influenced by things I saw on television and in movies. When I was younger, the Superman movies with Christopher Reeve were always there and I loved them and I even loved the dreadful Batman and Robin film, which I now realize I had a wierd childhood taste haha.
I read comic books on the side along with watching television. I will admit I had a lazy childhood. I attended the movies almost regularly after I saw X-Men. So I remember sitting in the theater, not clear on what movie it was, and I saw a preview or what appeared to be a bank robbery movie and I wasn't totally big on those yet (I wasn't even 7 yet I believe) anyways, the robbers were getting away and then all of a sudden their helicopter stopped in mind-air, and started being pulled. Once the camera pulled away, the helicopter was hanging on a web in between the twin towers....and then Spider-Man appeared. I SCREAMED IN MY SEAT! I had never been so excited in my life for a movie trailer. When I went home, I dove through my comic collection and found every spider-man comic I could so I could read up on the character again, as I had not read one in a good 8 months. Reading them made me ever so more excited for the character.
When it finally came time for the movie to be released, I was all ready and prepared I went out and bought everything Spider-Man I could find. Toys, T-Shirts, Comic Books, etc. and I loved every flickering moment I saw on the screen. I even went home with a lesson from the movie that with great power comes great responsibility,and I still hold that near and dear to my heart. That film impacted me greatly on what I would do with my life. After walking out of the theater with my grandma, I turned to her and said "Well I've decided what I'm going to do with my life: comic book movies"
I am now 16 years old. I've written two spider-man scripts that include the vulture and the chameleon. I've also written an X-Men: New Mutants film, and even a Shazam/Captain Marvel movie. I've gone through the hell of Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. My attitude towards the character has never been more sour. I found myself dissapointed with 2, and even more upset with 3. It is definitely time for the reboot. We need to see a new defining moment on the screen for Peter Parker/Spider-Man. So that hopefully this new younger generation will be influenced just as I am. I'm currently on the third act of my Aquaman script, and whenever I look for inspiration, I look towards that original Spider-Man film from 2002, and I think of the impact it had on me, that I could possibly have on an 8 yeard old in the audience someday.
