Joe Manganiello On Missing Out On Superman

Talking to The Coventry Telegraph Joe Manganiello talks about how close he came to suiting up as the Man Of Steel and why it didn't work out.

I don't think there is anything that new here, but I picked up on the fact that he seems really disappointed to have narrowly missed out.

In fact from reading it - I get the feeling that maybe he was first choice to play the Man of Steel and he had to pull out, but that's all just speculation on my part...

From Coventry Telegraph:

"The director said I was down to the last two. It's heartbreaking," says 34-year-old Manganiello with a deep sigh, revealing he'd even had his measurements taken for the suit.

"As fate would have it, the show that got me noticed by Snyder was also the show that made it impossible for me to go off and screen test, because Superman overlapped with True Blood. Alan [Ball] made it clear they had big plans for my character and that they weren't willing to share me with Superman.

"I'll have a break in about 10 years," he says with a smile.

He's a nice guy and a decent actor, but I think they made the right choice with Henry.

Have to agree with Leeholland, Joe is a good guy but when you see Cavill on set (with or without the suit) you cant help but feel the guy IS SUPERMAN

I feel the opposite. I can't believe they hired Cavill as Superman. of course Manganiello isn't much better.

That's okay with me. He's too mean looking, anyway. He's got those "mean eyebrows"/scowl that's more fit for villainous roles.

He is not Superman. Sorry, but i really wouldn't have been able to take him seriously. I just don't think he's that great of an actor, and he looks nothing like Superman.

Those were my thoughts before i saw all these pics of Henry Cavill. This is what i think now.

Henry Cavill IS Superman. Nobody else should touch this role for 10 years. Snyder's team and WB couldn't have picked a better Superman.

Joe's a cool guy, but he's obligated to "True Blood". He's still doing ok. His nose always bothered me, but that's me. Besides, with the recent pics of Henry Cavill as a ripped Grizzy Adams, doesn't he and Joe kind of look alike now?

If i was him and i had a chance at Superman vs. True Blood, Superman all the way.

hey..maybe everything's for the best. chin up Joe...

who knows..maybe in ten years, they'll make Kingdom Come the Movie, with a much OLDER Superman and..YOU'll finally get the chance to show whatchugot. b'sides Man of Steel started out with a younger Superman, much like Batman in Batman Begins, so, yeah..Cavill's got the upper hand there.

i think Joe is better suited playing superMAN.

Henry Cavil is Superman. You can even see the resemblance in his younger years.

as long as we can forget the 12 year old's voice in a mans body that was Tom "no emotion" welling, who cares?

You show me the comic with Superman with a busted nose, I'll think Joe Manganiello could play Superman.

Hawkman, Lobo, Hercules. When these parts come up Joe should go for them.

Tom Selleck was considered for Indiana Jones, I want to visit the alternate universe where this actually comes true.

In my opinion Joe could pass for Superman, but I honestly think Henry fits the comic book look more. I can't wait to see this movie, I think there are some of us that have a deep spiritual connection to this character.
