Smallville Season 8 Brings Back The Justice League

A CW executive recently sat down with TV guide to give us a taste of what the network is planning for one of its most popular shows to date.

As many Smallville fan's know, Clark's character development took a backseat to the storylines of other characters on the show (such as Kara, Lex and Chloe). But you'll be pleased to know that the producers have decided to focus more on Clark's progression in the eighth and (probably) final season of the hugely popular series.

Executive Producer Kelly Souders recently revealed to TV Guide that the next season will move Clark along in the mythology by allowing him to work as a reporter.

This season's theme is "double identities," Souders says. "It's about the Superman identity emerging as Clark Kent tries to maintain a normal life — or the appearance of a normal life." To that end, he takes a job at the "Daily Planet," right across the desk from Lois Lane (Erica Durance).

"The camaraderie as they work side-by-side that everyone loves from the DC Comics and all the Superman lore is going to come to fruition this year," Souders says. "The two of them are thrown together in some unfortunate situations for Clark. She becomes a little bit of an obstacle to him saving the world, when he's on a deadline."

TV Guide also revealed a spoiler for the season premier entitled "Odyssey". The spoiler is italicized below, so read on to find out more:

The Justice League, including The Green Arrow, Aquaman, The Black Canary, and The Martian Manhunter will save Clark in fortress of solitude during the season premier

Seeing that Justin Hartley (who plays the Green Arrow) has signed on for at least 12 episodes, you can be sure to see a strong Justice League story arc throughout the upcoming season. New villains Tess and Davis Bloom (Doomsday) will also appear in the absence of Lex and rumours are now beginning to circulate on message boards as to whether or not the iconic Perry White will take over the bullpen.

the CW has booked a panel at Comic Con 2008 which begins later this month, so stay tuned to Comic Book Movie for updates.

the CW has so far revealed that Clark will be working with Lois at the Daily Planet and teaming with the Justice League more often. But there is one major question fans will surely be asking at the Smallville Comic Con panel: after 7 seasons and 150 episodes, when will he finally learn to fly?
