Smallville Superman to Get Cape AND Cowl!

Smallville Superman to Get Cape AND Cowl!

Although no one believed it a possibility, Smallville is indeed returning for a ninth season with star Tom Welling in tow. But even more improbable was the idea that we would see Monsieur Welling in the Superman uniform, but according to highly-placed sources that’s exactly what fans can expect — though with a Smallville twist.

UPDATE: 4/2 - If you haven't figured it out yet, this was an April Fool's Day fake story.

SM501-0051

One of the potential problems Clark Kent will eventually be facing when he reveals himself as Superman is the fact that there are a lot of people who know his face. "Because they haven't introduced the notion of the glasses," offers the source, "there's nothing to stop people from realizing that Clark and Superman are the same person. Continuity remains very important to the show's staff, so they knew this had to be handled delicately."

The solution? While Tom Welling's Superman will be wearing the traditional red and blue uniform, billowing cape included, now he'll be wearing a cowl as well to hide the majority of his face. "It seems like the perfect solution," we're told, "and besides, maybe it will offer a look that suggests Batman, which in itself might draw a few more eyeballs to the show."

Will the audience buy it? "Probably," the source smiles. "They've pretty much bought everything else the show has come up with, whether it fits canon or not. Besides, they only have to get through one more season."

The other real question is whether or not Welling's Clark Kent will finally start flying. Apparently they've gotten rid of the "no tights" rule, so why can't Mr. Kent take to the sky?

if they had used Zatanna's character to resolve the identity issue using her skill on a "special" pair of glasses for Clark then maybe I'd buy this story. but the whole cowl thing... I don't think so - even as a story line gag Welling wouldnt do it. So far hes shown restraint & respect for the character... this has to be the dumbest April Fools story I've ever seen.

Heh thats funny. Nice one CBM.

If continuity was important to the show than they would not have butchered Doomsday like they did. Everything else was okay up until that. Great show, but WTF is up with Doomsday!

IF IT WAS TRUE IT WOULD REALLY BE DUMB..IF YOUR TRYING TO TELL THE STORY OF SUPERMAN AND YOU HAVE HIM WEAR A FREAKING MASK..THAT WOULD THROW U IN A DEEPER HOLE THAN YOU ALREADY ARE IN..THERES SO MANY CONTINUITY POTHOLES BECAUSE THE SHOW CREATORS TOOK ARTISTIC LIBERTIES, ITS A MESS BUT STILL ENTERTAINING..HONESTLLY, IF YOU WANT TO FIX ALL THE POTHOLES, MESS WITH TIME.

they should put him in Rorschach's mask and call it a day., oh, and make him growl like Bales Batman, all while struggling to get through science college and delivering pizzas on his super-moped and fighting a losing battle with alcoholism. Don't Make Tom Welling ANGRY! You wouldn't like him when he's angry AND heartbroken at the same time cause Lana left.

I acctually like the idea. I have always hated the idea that nobody can tell that Clark is Superman, just because of some stupid glasses. That is the one thing that has always ruined Superman for me. Superman should either hide his identity, or just come out and say that he is Clark Kent and Kent is Superman.

"i agree coz it was reported last week that clark will never wear any part of the superman uniforn until the very last scene of the very last episode. because then it turns into superman and thats not what they're going for."

That report was not from last week, it was a comment made by one of the old producers of the show years ago, someone just posted it to look like they had something useful to post.

CBM has had much better April Fools articles, this one should not have been first.
