At the "Smallville" press junket during Comic-Con International in San Diego, attended by KryptonSite's Craig Byrne, series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar immediately addressed questions about the greatly-anticipated Girl of Steel.

"She did a great job," Gough said about Laura Vandervoort's first day as Kara. "It's hard, coming into an established series with an established cast, playing an iconic character. But she's really great."

When faced with the question of a Supergirl spin-off, Gough laughed. "There's always a chance."

The producers then turned the spotlight on another major female character.

"Lois [Lane, played by Erica Durance] actually has a very interesting season," Gough said. "She is going to get hired by the Daily Planet, and there's a young editor [who] likes her chutzpah and clearly has some sort of romantic interest in her as well, so they have a lot of good scenes."

Lois's ex, Oliver Queen (Justin Hartley), will return for several episodes around the middle of the year.

"He's somebody that Clark can go to for help when he needs assistance," Miles Millar said.

Kara Zor-El isn't the only new character to be introduced this season. There was much fan applause at Comic-Con for the announcement that ex-Superman Dean Cain finally would visit Smallville during the October episode 'Cure.'

The 'Lois & Clark' star plays Doctor Curtis Knox ('CK,' get it?), who claims he can cure meteor freaks. But the doctor may have another secret...

Season Seven of "Smallville" premieres on The CW September 27.
