Tom Welling On The Superman Suit, Michael Rosenbaum And Darkseid!

The Smallville star discusses how Clark has progressed over the years and building towards him finally wearing the iconic suit, how he's in the process of getting Rosenbaum back as Lex Luthor as well as facing off against Darkseid...

On How Both He And Clark Has Progressed Over The Years:

" It's amusing for me to look back at some of the earlier episodes. I mean, I'm a completely different person, physically and mentally. The times when I catch an old episode, or maybe even put one on as reference for something we're doing now, I can't help but be a little surprised. "Look at that kid! He doesn't know what the hell he's doing!" And that's Clark and me. So I've been able to hopefully grow along with Clark. It's been a good journey for both of us!"

On Clark Nearing The Point Of Finally Wearing The Iconic Costume:

"Well I think what Clark's going to be dealing with is him being in his own way. I think it's an issue and a dilemma a lot of people are familiar with or at least can relate to, where a lot of times, we're in our own way and preventing ourselves from moving forward with our lives. Clark has to deal with that. He's got everything going for him. Why doesn't he just put it on? And I think that's what he's trying to figure out for himself."

On Whether Michael Rosenbaum Will Return As Lex Luthor:

"I text him all the time. I'm directing an episode right now and he was like, "Hey, what are you doing?" I go, "Directing. You should be in this episode!" He's like, "Anything for you." I'm like, "Ah, go to the airport!" We try! We love him. We can't wait to see him. Our fingers are crossed."

On Facing Off Against Darkseid In The Tenth And Final Season:

"I don't know what the end game is. I know he'll have to face it at some point. It's a huge villain because it's not necessarily something you can beat up or grab or throw or fight. It's something that is deep in the psyche that affects people on a level where they can't just beat it up or be stronger. It's going to be a mental and physical challenge at the same time."

Great find, Josh. Still doesn't answer, though, whether or not he'll be in the costume.

Hey, Grif, do you think he'll be in the costume?

Hmmm. Let's try something here. Hey, Grif, what color is the sky?

Ah ha! Automatic response. I knew it!

tom welling says "it's amusing for me to look back at some of the earlier episodes."

funny that we have something in common.

clark wearing the costume-it will be the last fifteen minutes of the final episode.

you know why because they've strung the smallville fans along for ten years, they know you will watch to the very end just to see him in costume.

lex luthor return-won't happen why do you think they're doing the clone story.

darkseid-should be saved for a superman or justice league movie, this show will never do the charactor the justice he so rightly deserves.

ED @ lmfao!!!!! : D

Sweet @ JOSH, WELLINGS cool 4 the suit right at the end, I cringe tho if he ever got the big screen deal (which he wont) but I see him stiffing around and hinting! : p

This show needs MIKE back as LEX, coz DARKSEID's as SH1TE as DOOMSDAY was on Smallville... them characters are too big, they need big screen treatment with a big budget!

SUPERMAN (DOOMSDAY)

JLA (DARKSEID)

Let me make one point: I'm only joking around with Grif. In my mind this has just been a running thing: I post multiple Smallville stories and he basically offers up some variation of "shit show." So for me it's all in fun.

For others who are worried about that statement that Darkseid isn't physical -- that made me take a step back, too. He did conclude things, though, by saying the conflict with Darkseid is mental AND physical. My bet is that he will be a mental challenge throughout the season and the conflict will take on a physical manifestation towards the end.

God, I hope Michael Rosenbaum comes back on the last episode. OK, they need to do it like this.... Clark is down on his last stand. Darkseid is about to overpower Clark, Lex comes to the rescue. Everyone and Clark thinks he's a hero. Then the second to last scene before Clark is seen as Superman. Lex is back in his office in his Lexcorp building, looking out his window, looking onto Metropolis and says no one is going to destroy youu Clark, No one but me. The End...

Great article and even I sometimes go *EEK* when I look back to the earlier episodes.

My take on all of this would have Clark suit up ( become someone else) in ORDER to fight Darkseid. This way he can push all of the uncertainties about himself (Clark) to one side and actually beat the crap outta the beast!

oh and I actually think that they're keeping Mike as a huge surprise and ratings puller. ?

Rosenbaum was the best thing to ever happen to or come out of Smallville. He is the definitive live-action Lex. It would be a massive disappointment to never see him come back, even if it's for one episode.

He isn't going to spoil everything because he wants people to watch the show. Plus they have yet to finish filming so some of the questions he doesn't have answers to.

the 3 saddest parts about smallville haters are
1: you were pissy when it was going on,crying about wanting it to end
2:now after its ending, your still pissy
and
3 you waste your time going into an article you hate, just to,you guessed it...act pissy

I must be missing something DARKSEID is now
a spirit good ole waterville!

Just like Doomsday... Darkseid will be ruined
also there's not going to be some BIG epic
fight.

Darkseid is going to go supernatural
style down someone's throat and clark or one
of his co-stars is going to open a portal
and send him back to his own universe...end
of epic battle.

I loved Rosenbaum as Lex and I always wanted him to return, but at this point I saw screw him. We already know Lex is alive in the future so that's all that really matters.

I could see if he was doing good movies and thought the show was beneath him, but he's currently doing voice work as the Flash for a dc universe game.
