Understanding Smallville's Jimmy Olsen

Understanding Smallville's Jimmy Olsen

I was very surprised that they killed Jimmy Olsen in Smallville's season finale, "Doomsday." But the Jimmy we have been seeing is not the Jimmy from the mythology.

But then again, he is because a anonymous copy boy that resembled Jimmy makes a cameo in Action Comics #6, but the character called Jimmy Olsen first appeared in the radio show, The Adventures of Superman (radio)|The Adventures of Superman, on April 15, 1940. The character moved from the radio show into the comics in 1941, first appearing in Superman v1 #13 (1941. In Smallville, Aron Ashmore's Jimmy is called, Henry James Olsen; when in the mythology, his name is James Bartholomew Olsen. At the ending of Smallville Doomsday, Chloe gives Jimmy's little brother a Camera that belonged to his brother; the real Jimmy Olsen. This kid looked exactly like the mythology's Jimmy Olsen. Besides, mythology Jimmy was young. So in season 9, expect him to be wearing a watch to contact Superman.

Why is everyone always knocking Smallville? This show is the best on TV, I agree this may not have been the best season but with the creators and Rosenbaum gone for this season I think the new team has done a pretty good job. You guys want to complain about the whole Jimmy issue but the only reason it was done was to please the fans that where throwing tantrums when they intoduced Jimmy on the show because "that's not how it is in the comics", and now that they find a way to correct that for YOU the fans, you guys are still acting like a bunch of spoiled little rich kids. It's just a show, stop being so damn picky, and enjoy it for what it is ENTERTAINMENT!!

If you like jokers that don't joke. Best example: When Gordon was promoted the real Joker would get up, do a dance and laugh, not sit with his head down and clap slowly.

I bitch and complain about Smallville but it really is the best on Tv. The Jimmy thing really rubbed me the wrong way but i guess, its the shows way of trying to "fix" their jimmy. I just would've like some warning about his name, or would've like to have seen/heard of his brother before his funeral...

@joNathanPetrelli, I understand your point but putting that aside, it still was a shock to see Jimmy get killed off, real Jimmy or not!

@kryptonian rage
Yeah it was! Although, I hate to admit it but if anyone on that show was gonna die, then I'm glad it was Jimmy. Which i know how that sounds but I was soo ready for Chloe or Davis or Tess that it was really nice change! (Don't get me wrong, I liked Jimmy. I just liked everyone else..more than him..)

@RorMachine
No, his brother is named Jimmy. Just everyone called him Jimmy is because his middle name is James. So Henry's little brother from the season finale of season 8 is the actual and real Jimmy that we all know and love from the comics, just younger like he should be. But besides that, it is complete bull crap but I learned to deal with it.
