BREAKING BAD Star Bryan Cranston Criticizes Laziness Of Jim Gordon And Lex Luthor Fan Casts

For years, fans have shared their hopes that Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston might bring Lex Luthor to life on screen, but the actor isn't overly appreciative of being suggested for him or Jim Gordon.

Prior to Jesse Eisenberg being cast as Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the hope among fans had been that Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston might match wits with the Caped Crusader and Man of Steel.

The actor has since remained a fan-favourite choice to bring the classic Superman villain to life on screen, though we've seen actors like Jon Cryer and Michael Cudlitz pick up where Eisenberg left off, albeit on television.

During a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, Cranston was asked if he thinks there's an element of laziness surrounding the fact the mustache and bald head he once rocked as Walter White is the cause of him so often being fan cast as both Lex and Commissioner Jim Gordon.

"Not that I know of," he said of whether there's ever been any actual talks of casting him. "I did Jim Gordon in the animated Batman thing. And that was fun. I think it was - I think you’re right, I think it was, like, lazy casting. There should be a, like, 'lazycasting.com.'"

"And I was like, 'What is it?' Because I had a bald head, they go 'Ah! Lex Luthor!' It’s like, come on. Let’s think about this a little bit."

There's no denying that Cranston would be a fantastic Lex, though the moment might have now passed.

James Gunn is believed to be looking for an actor to play the villain in Superman: Legacy, though the only name we've heard connected with the role is X-Men: First Class star Nicholas Hoult. However, it's believed he was, in reality, screen testing for Clark Kent.

Check out the interview with Cranston below.

He is right

He was also way too old to play a Lex that should be Clark’s number 1 rival / nemesis it would’ve just looked like Clark fighting an old man

@ShimmyShimmyYA - To the handful of people that know Lex and Clark went to high school together and not from a tv show.

@Reeds2Much - In the post-crisis version, Lex actually was a bit older than Clark. Not like an old enough to be his dad or anything, but maybe about ten years. Lex actually was a childhood friend of Perry White.

Lex Luthor: an unauthorized biography is one of the best Lex Luthor related stories ever. It truly shows how spine-chilling character Lex truly is, and why everyone fears him despite the lack of any direct superpowers.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - maybe too old for Lex. Still perfect for.

@VictorAlonzo - actually Think he’s too old for Freeze as well, not saying freeze should be young but Bryan is 70 years old.

He's on the money - fans saw him as a bald egomaniac and said he should be Lex. Would've just been a variation of his Walter White character.
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 6/26/2023, 9:32 AM
@regularmovieguy - yep a variation of Walter White. WW was a complete 180 from the dad on MitM “yeah but this would be a 360 from Walter White!” Oook im Not saying that’s bad, after all Xavier and Picard are absolutely cut from the same cloth, yet JK Simmons as JJJ was shockingly campy compared to the murderous rapist neo nazi Schillinjer from Oz. “it’s SchillinGER!” *shank* AND YET… ultimately sir I have to disagree.

Because Heisenberg

Trumps Eisenberg.

Deep down everyone knew it was lazy and overwhelmingly superficial fan-casting. Those fans wanted Walter White versus Superman, not Lex versus Supes.

@GhostDog - Walter White has a better chance against Superman than Lex

He says “it was lazy fan casting because I had a bald head.”

Cranston still would’ve destroyed those roles. Either Luthor or Gordon. Would’ve been a great pick for either.

I think 95% of all fan casting is lazy.

Need a new Sue Storm?
Fans will pull up 100 pictures of 30 year old women with blonde hair.

Poison Ivy?
100 pictures of women who already have red hair.

Luke Cage?
Any black male who is already jacked.

And on and on.

TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 6/26/2023, 9:37 AM
@mdwilliamson24 - I must say that lazy or not, Terry Crews would’ve nailed Sweet Christmas, but then been campier than Thor. I liked the Netflix guy what’s his name, ah yes, big bald black dude
