Idris Elba Dismisses Belief That He Wants Out Of His MARVEL Contract; "That's Crazy"

The British actor blames "sloppy journalism" or "bad misquoting" for those who think that he no longer wants to play Heimdall for Marvel Studios. Check out all of what Idris Elba says after the jump!

During an interview last month, when Idris Elba revealed his and Tom Hiddleston's inclusion in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the British actor had also recalled a "torture" experience doing reshoots for Thor: The Dark World just 24 hours after portraying late anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela. Some headlines and coverage of the interview had ran with the belief that Elba wanted out of his contract with Marvel Studios, for whom he plays the Asgardian gatekeeper Heimdall, but he now tells The Daily Beast that that is not the case at all. "I don’t know where people got that, man," responded Idris Elba. "I was quite specifically talking about the comparison between playing Heimdall on one day, and playing Mandela on the next. That’s sloppy journalism, or just really bad misquoting. I have a great relationship with the Marvel team, and the character of Heimdall. People are really running with this thing like, 'Oh my God, he doesn’t want to be with Marvel anymore.' People thinking that comparing those roles means I don’t want to be with Marvel, well, that’s crazy." Anyhow, Idris Elba will appear briefly as Heimdall in Avengers: Age of Ultron ;next year, and he is also likely to return for Thor: Ragnarok on July 28, 2017. What do you think?

Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure. Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015.

Saying he wants out of his contract is a step too far, but Elba was being a little bitch about it. And he spoiled a part in Avengers 2 because he was so pissy.

Idris Elba is wasted in this role.

I don't remember anyone saying he wanted out of his contract.
I think some us registered his frustration coming from a heavy role like Mandela to a fluff piece supporting role like Heimdall.

Frankly, I think he should make his way out of there after the next Thor. That franchise needs to come to an end anyway.

People always forget that Alba wasn't the big actor he's now when Marvel hired him. That's why Marvel put him as Hiemdall and why he accepted the role.

They at least gave him a badass scene in Thor 2

Elba is just acting like a sore loser or something. Not everyone can play the dashing rogue like Chris Pratt, or the playboy superhero like Downey.

Some just have to stick with the lame space vikings they're cast as.

I'll torrent Thor 3, but nothing will make me pay to see it. The cosmic movies are steaming turds of crap, so far.

I remember when that was reported I didn't take it as him complaining about Marvel. It was just one day he was being Mandela then the next day he was hanging from wires and doing green screen stuff with tons of make-up. People read too much into comments sometimes.
