THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Star Natalie Portman Open To Mighty Thor Return But Is Waiting For Marvel Studios' Call

Thor: Love and Thunder star Natalie Portman has revealed whether she'd be open to playing Jane Foster/The Mighty Thor again, but admits she's heard nothing from Marvel Studios. Find her comments here...

After seemingly parting ways with Marvel Studios on bad terms after 2013's Thor: The Dark World, Natalie Portman was absent from the MCU until suiting up as the Mighty Thor in 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder

While Jane Foster's arc wasn't quite as satisfying as what we saw on the page, Portman kicked serious butt as Thor before ultimately succumbing to her cancer. The door was, however, left open to a possible return after she entered the gates of Valhalla alongside Heimdall.

Talking to Total Film, Portman was asked if she'd be open to returning as the Mighty Thor. "Oh, I have no idea," she started. "I mean, no one's asked me to. So I don't know. But sure, that was super-fun."

It would be a missed trick to not either resurrect Jane or have her play a Multiversal member of the Thor Corps, but at least we know Portman is open to the idea of returning.

Reflecting on shooting Thor: Love and Thunder, the Oscar-winner said, "Yeah, it was so fun. I had such a great time making it. I loved working with Taika [Waititi], and Chris [Hemsworth] is just the greatest, and so is Tessa [Thompson]."

"I was just laughing all day, every day. There's only my highest love for that experience - and not to mention Australia, which is just the most glorious country."

Before suiting up in the God of Thunder's divisive fourth movie, Portman made an ADR cameo in Avengers: Endgame. Talking in 2022 about that, the actress reflected on the experience of seeing herself in a movie she never actually stood in front of the cameras for (a stand-in was used for what little we saw of Jane).

"It was very easy for me," she laughed. "I mean, it’s always amazing to see yourself, even if only for a split second, in a Marvel film, because you’re in places that you’ve never actually been before. It’s like seeing photos from a vacation that you never took or something."

Back to Thor: The Dark World, and it's believed she was extremely unhappy about Marvel Studios' "creative differences" with original director Patty Jenkins. Asked for her take on the sequel being widely considered one of the MCU's worst movies, Portman said, "I mean, I had it with 'The Professional' too."

"It was slaughtered critically, and now, despite having been in Marvel and 'Star Wars' movies, it’s the main thing people come up to me about. That and 'Star Wars' are two examples of things that when they came out, I was like, 'Oh, my God, this is a disaster.' And then 20 years later - actually, 30 years later for 'The Professional' - it’s beloved."

Would you like to see The Mighty Thor in the MCU again?

No multiverse Variant stuff, if they bring her back should be a Valkyries type affair, they set that up perfectly showing Valhalla and the one perfect vehicle to use Tessa's character well.

@SuperCat - I thought she was one of the better parts of Thor L&T. But that was a really low bar because the movie was trash. Id watch her in anything.

Honestly after Love & Thunder , I would be down for it!!.

Say what you want about the film (I liked it though it was flawed), the character of Jane imo was better in that then she had been in the previous 2 films or atleast i liked her more…

If they do bring her back , they have the perfect setup in her being in Valhalla as a Valkyrie given there is precedent for that in the comics aswell!!.

Honestly, outside of gorr, killing Jane Foster was actually a great idea (and no, not because she's a woman).

When you get down to it, accepting her death was really the most meaningful arc in the entire movie. And it genuinely took balls to do it in a goofy comedy like this.

So to just undo it like this for the sake of bringing her back is just gonna undermine that and retroactively make love and thunder much worse than it already is.

Even a variant I just don't like. Like, why worry about her dying when an exactly the same version pops out to fill that spot?

@Origame - I think it completed her arc nicely. The rest of the movie is a mess but I do think they handled that part well

@Origame - nothing is that pile of dogshit can redeem it or be good, sorry. Blunder is the worse marvel movie ever and @taika destroyed thor and his mythos, almost completely.

I thought her story and Gor's were pretty goof out of the film, though much of the rest of it I didn't like. If Korg actually died it might have been a much better film. That would have been a good arc too.

@Itwasme - liked Gorr aswell , he might have been the highlight for me even if he wasn’t in it much (especially the parallel between him & Jane of the thing giving them power killing them aswell).

I liked him being this bogeyman from a fairy tale.

Thor’s arc was a positive for me aswell

Korg was definitely more hit or miss for me in this then before so him actually dying might have worked better.

Thor 4, Vol2 & Cap Marvel really hurt my brain.

For all of LaT’s faults, I liked that Jane made it to Valhalla after dying in battle (with cancer). I thought it was a really moving sentiment.

I love Natalie, and she is one of the longest-running actresses in the MCU, but I think audiences have grown tired of her portraying Jane Foster. Time to move forward and introduce Thor to some other old flames.

Lady Sif.

@GeneralZod - a lot of these people are the same ones always speculating on how Evans and Downey can come back so it is hard to take their thoughts seriously. I would say that if used properly, like an obliterated Thor somehow turns to her for guidance in Valhalla just like he did in Endgame with Frigga, than it could be a great moment but I do agree with the no variants people 100%

@tluciotti74 - I like the Valhalla idea -- limited role, 100%.

Love and blunder was the last straw, after that marvel fell of the cliff. @taika destroyed thor and @marvel and Feige let it happen. The shit show movie, slapstick, broom riding, xena and power rangers episode 😳 has zero redeeming qualities. Reboot thor or ignore love and blunder. Spiders, kidnapped kids, infinity plotholes, goats, shit all around. Jane was ok, UT it was the wrong time and wrong director. Like others, bring her back as valkerie maybe and concentrate on sif, that's thors girl and erase love, not cannon and thor has no power over mjolnir or stormbreaker, it's all odin, bring all that back. Bring back Ray Bill and finally, bring mangog as a villain and bring thor with odinpower and you have a 3 billion dollar movie.

@marvel72 - Well now it can happen, because Taika(wich is actually magic in Finnish, never seen his Taika happen in his Thor movies, I liked Ragnarok, but different reasons) is gone a that's good.

"give us the real Thor." - @marvel72 -

That ain't the real Thor. That dude has been a clown and shit and trash in every movie he's been in inside and outside of the Marvel Studios machine. The box office speaks for itself. Maybe Furiosa would have made 5 more dollars if it had a Marvel Studios logo on it.

Would be pretty cool if she replaced Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie moving forward now that she’s been to Valhalla.

They way they handled Thor was just an absolute goddamn butchering man. From day one he was a joke, and should have come off more like your average character in Game Of Thrones. Instead....we got a clown. And y'all are actually, with no sarcasm, taking his "arc" seriously and talking about his character arc. What character arc?

The ark didn't get the gravitas it should have had in what was an abomination of a film, couldn't care less if she comes back or not but perhaps the roles have dried up?
