On Quesadas blog Cup O' Joe this week, the Marvel head honcho talks about a meeting he had with Kenneth Branagh and John Favreu's take on "Iron Man 2"

The first story is about Kenneth Branagh and how he gave him a "three hour pitch" for the Thor movie.

"We had one big creative meeting with the Marvel Creative Committee, which now works on all of our movies and I have the honor to be a part of. We sat with Kenneth and discussed the "Thor" movie and the overarching story of what that's going to be, just to give our input before anything was put down to paper by screenwriters.

And it was one of the highlights of my time here at Marvel because not only did Branagh sit there and give you the story beat for beat, he and [Marvel Studios head] Kevin Feige formed a great team. It was performance art. Kevin would give us the establishment of the shot and the situation: "Here we are. We're in (take your pick of location). And here's Odin and he’s coming up to (pick a character)." And then Kenneth would come in and give you the color commentary. "Odin has an air of majesty to him" and he'd act out the Odin part or the Thor part. So we sat there and literally got a three-hour one-man show from Kenneth Branagh. It was fantastic. People pay a lot of money for that kind of performance by one of the world’s greatest living actors."

He then talks about Jon Favreau and how he wanted to learn more about Tony Stark's reasons.

" We just sat there and talked Iron Man, and he wanted to know who he is and why Tony Stark does what he does. That was really key to Favreau: why put on the suit and try to do good things? It was a much tougher question once he defeats the Iron Monger, gets his tech and his company back…why continue doing this? What does Tony Stark stand for?

In essence, the thing I never revealed about that conversation in the past is that Jon was looking for these answers because he was already thinking ahead, he was thinking about "Iron Man 2."

See, it doesn't quite work on film that he goes and stops a little lady from getting mugged. While that may be an ancillary part of it, when you have that suit of armor, the world’s greatest weapon, the story has to be bigger, and your reason for being has to be bigger. But at the same time, it has to be small and streamlined enough that an audience can grab hold of it. Favreau is all about that. And at the same time, where do Tony's allegiances lie? It was almost the same kind of questions we had during "Civil War." So time with Favreau is sort of spent quietly huddling and talking about a character's reason for doing what he does. Again, that's also a part of that Marvel formula."

So although he doesnt go into any plot details as such, its good to know the guys in charge of these movies are as passionate about them as us fans.

I agree gtrman, just imagine if marvel claimed back all their characters and then they could have the biggest franchise ever, called "CIVIL WAR." and tell the whole story of the superhuman registration act and the war that breaks out between the characters and have everbody in on it starting whoever is playing cap, RDJR, tobey Mguier edward norton have all the cast memebers from each marvel movie..........but im pretty much shooting for the stars....... i can still dream though

The thing is that we are getting good films, that happen to be based on comic books. Any good film asks what the motivations of it's characters are, and what drives a character to do what he or she does. In the past, comic book movies were just pulp, now we get substance. Since Spider Man 1 we have had a brilliant run of filmmakers looking at character and substance as well as special effects and not just a poor treatment for a nitch audience.

I just wish to god Fox would let go of their cash cow of superheroes and let Marvel have them back! Even a compromise of Marvels movie making and Fox distribution will do!

I reckon WOLVERINE 2 wont be that bad, it can only be better! Hey does anyone know when does FOX lose these rights to MARVEL characters? Or is it, when they don't want to make MARVEL movies anymore type of thing?!

Frosty you are an Idiot.

The Q is annoying. He has had some bad ideas as of late and I dislike how he runs things over at marvel.

How many years do they have to keep the rights? Daredevil has been what 4 5 years, so why doesn't Marvel have his rights back???

I heard they have the Xmen rights as long as they make a movie every 3-4yrs. That includes any rights to characters they decide to throw into the Xmen universe. Don't know how true that is though.

We can only hope that after Wolverine, Hugh and some others turned on Fox and said "STOP F*CKING EVERYTHING UP" and they listen. Wolverine could have and should have been mind blowing. It seemed to me like they were on track to do that but then we heard about Fox changing sets because "they were too gloomy" and generally sticking their brainless ores in where they have no clue! They are good with cartoons but CBMs? No!

FOX holds the rights to Marvel movies as long as they have something to do with the project in production. Like the Deadpool movie would be enough to allow FOX to hold all of its X-Porperties. Daredevil and FF's time limits are almost up and thats why FOX is talkkng about rebooting Daradevil, they say they have it planned and that is enough for them to hold the rights, as long as some form of production is underway, even if that includes hiring a monkey to write a script.

How could a shitload of people be wrong saying anything? Easily, in fact. Just because something becomes a popular opinion doesn't mean it's right. But please, campaign on! No human rights are violated by casting Ackles... just good taste. ^_^'

Besides, are there actually any Ackles supporters OUTSIDE of cbm.com? That means, people who don't undergo your permanent brainwash attempts? :P
