THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Director Makes It Clear That Jane Foster Is "Mighty Thor" Not "Female Thor"

On Saturday night, we learned that Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Thor: Love and Thunder. The movie will not only feature an openly gay Valkyrie, but also the big screen debut of female Thor. Sorry, the Worthy Thor!

As you can see below, Waititi wants fans to know that when Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) becomes the new God of Thunder, she won't be referred to by her gender; instead, she's going to be dubbed "Mighty" just like her comic book counterpart. That's definitely the best direction to take things in and a sign the filmmaker really cares about the character.

You can see the director's Tweet below:

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn has also commented on Thor: Love and Thunder and told one fan that Waititi's movie is going to be set before his. That's hardly a surprise, but it also means that Waititi will have to explain why the God of Thunder isn't in outer space with the team and possibly how he joins back up with them in time for Gunn's threequel.

Who would have guessed that we'd ever see Angelina Jolie on stage at Comic-Con to promote a Marvel Studios movie? This truly proves that they can get anyone to join the MCU these days!

Simi Liu was cast as Shang-Chi this past Tuesday and it's fair to say that this will be the actor's biggest role to date. He'll need to spend a lot of time training to do the hero justice, though!

The Vision and Scarlet Witch together again! We still have no idea how the android returns from the dead in WandaVision but we can assume it has something to do with Wanda's powers.

We thought Tom Hiddleston was done playing Loki after the last two Avengers movies but we now know that Loki will revolve around the 2012 version of him after he escaped with the Tesseract.

The crowd at Comic-Con sang Benedict Cumberbatch "Happy Birthday!" as he came out to announce the next instalment of the Doctor Strange franchise alongside co-star Elizabeth Olsen.

Richard Madden is one of Hollywood's hottest commodities after The Bodyguard and Rocketman so having him lead the cast of The Eternals as Ikaris is obviously a huge win for Marvel Studios.

Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi presents the returning Natalie Portman with Thor's hammer Mjolnir as she will be playing the female God of Thunder in that fourth instalment.

Jeffrey Wright is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as The Watcher...in an animated form! The show will stream on Disney+ and is set to visit a number of alternate timelines and realities.

Jeremy Renner will return as Hawkeye in a series that promises to delve both into his time as Ronin during that five-year time jump and him training his replacement, comic book character Kate Bishop.

So much for Millie Bobby Brown playing Sprite, eh? This is Lia McHugh and she appears to be quite a bit younger than the Stranger Things star so maybe Marvel Studios chose a different direction!

The last time we saw Thor, he was heading into outer space with the "Asgardians of the Galaxy" but something must have brought him back to Earth...could that be the fact there's a new Thor?

Black Widow may have been killed off in Avengers: Endgame but Scarlett Johansson is back for an adventure which will take place between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War

David Harbour is playing Red Guardian and the reason he's wearing a Captain America t-shirt is apparently because his character has some "complicated" feelings for Steve Rogers. Do they know each other?

Florence Pugh's star is on the rise and she'll be playing Yelena Belova in Black Widow. That's a character with a lot of history in the comics but it sounds like she'll be an ally to Natasha in the MCU.

Rachel Weisz is another surprising addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and we don't currently know who she'll be playing in Black Widow. However, she's probably a villainous Russian of some sort!

In one of the biggest surprises of the night, it was revealed that Teyonah Parris is going to play an adult version of Monica Rambeau in WandaVision. We first met the character in Captain Marvel.

Meet the new Blade! Mahershala Ali stole the show in the first season of Luke Cage as Cottonmouth and he was cast by Marvel Studios after calling Kevin Feige to discuss playing the character.

Tessa Thompson says that Valkyrie is looking for a "Queen" in Thor: Love and Thunder and it's going to be very interesting seeing who that winds up being. Is Jane Foster a remote possibility?

So it would seem Thor maybe won't be a part of guardian's or maybe won't be that big a part of it?

@MyCoolYoung - I think in both you are right, seems he won't. Kinda sucks.

@MyCoolYoung - Or the Guardians of the Galaxy pick up a distress beacon and it turns out to be Sakaar. Amora the Enchantress has over taken all the men on Sakaar with a spell and captures Thor. Quill, Rocket, Groot, and Drax under the spell of The Enchantress are sent away from Sakaar but leave Thor behind. Amora casts another spell to transfer Thor's power to the woman that he loves most. Amora being an ex-girlfriend of Thor is shocked when his power doesn't convert to her. Instead it gets transferred to Jane Foster. Jane unites with Valkyrie to Sakaar to rescue Thor. Out of jealousy and anger toward Thor, Amora commands the Grandmaster to have human thor face their new champion Beta Ray Bill.

@MyCoolYoung - "That's hardly a surprise but it also means that Waititi will have to explain why the God of Thunder isn't in outer space with the team and possibly how he joins back up with them in time for Gunn's threequel."

...pretty sure Gunn commented on this months ago that Thor was not in Guardians 3.

@JonC - I never seen that article. What happened at the end of endgame was for nothing

@NinnesMBC - it really does. Maybe Gunn didn't want someone as powerful as Thor with them

@SonOfAGif - that would be Thor 4 though I just don't see Taika having the entire guardian's cast in his movie

@MyCoolYoung - Yeah... Far too expensive to have them all in it just for tidying up continuity. All it really needs is a line of exposition about them dropping him off somewhere and going on their way. Or he just took their shuttle craft again, as he did in Infinity War.

A few years of continuity may have passed by the time Love and Thunder is set... not at all odd if he has moved on to other things.

@Chewtoy - but I mean the guardian's films never move the same way the other mcu movies do so I doubt years would have passed. It just seemed unnecessary for him to be with them at the end of the movie if there was no payoff.

@SonOfAGif - That sounds so much better than what the actual movie will likely end up being. The only thing that would make me roll my eyes hard is that this woman we've never seen or heard of before is an ex girlfriend. But hey, it's better than being a disgruntled employee of Tony Stark :)

Aaron should've given her a new alias, this plot-point f*cking sucks.
But hey, at least now she's the new Valkyrie, so..
