Thor: Love and Thunder introduced one of the God of Thunder's most fearsome villains in Gorr the God Butcher, and with Christian Bale playing him, fans had high hopes. Unfortunately, it felt like many of his scenes were left on the cutting room floor, robbing us of seeing much of what the former Batman brought to the table for his MCU debut.

The actor reflected on his experience during a recent interview with GQ and, while he didn't trash the blockbuster, he admitted that green screen acting isn't for him.

"That’s the first time I’ve done that. I mean, the definition of it is monotony," Bale admits. "You’ve got good people. You’ve got other actors who are far more experienced at it than me. Can you differentiate one day from the next? No. Absolutely not. You have no idea what to do. I couldn’t even differentiate one stage from the next."

"They kept saying, 'You’re on Stage Three.' Well, it’s like, 'Which one is that?' 'The blue one.' They’re like, 'Yeah. But you’re on Stage Seven.' 'Which one is that?' 'The blue one.' I was like, 'Uh, where?'"

The requirements of a big budget movie like Thor: Love and Thunder clearly weren't for Bale, though we are surprised he didn't take some enjoyment out of seeing The Volume utilised on set. Regardless, the actor reiterated that watching Thor: Ragnarok prompted him to join the MCU, though he'd add that he didn't go method to play Gorr.

"That would’ve been a pitiful attempt to do that," the Oscar-winner says. "As I’m trying to get help getting the fangs in and out and explaining I’ve broken a nail, or I’m tripping over the tunic."

We're hoping Bale will eventually elaborate on how he feels about his scenes with Jeff Goldblum and Peter Dinklage being cut, but green screen aside, it certainly doesn't sound like he hated his time in the MCU. Still, it's interesting to hear his perspective, and how it feels for an actor not used to that to embrace the Marvel Studios approach to filmmaking.

Really loved his performance but feel there was so much more meat left on that bone. Such a shame.

I get that shooting these films on location are tricky because they don't want spoilers to get out, but it comes to a point where every scene is pure cgi. At least use the Volume ffs, they can afford to build 20 of them. Keep it practical, they forgot how to use cgi as an enhancement. Plus it'll relieve the workload for the ten thousand vfx artists that work on them. And it might also look FINISHED lol

Location shoots remain unmatched and it's time Disney goes back to it with covid in the rear view mirror. I mean they're doing it with Andor, they did it with Eternals. Both of them look gorgeous.

Disney’s reliance on green screens probably is the future and that is highly depressing

THIS!!!...is one of the many reasons Chris Nolan's appraoch to super hero films for both Man of Steel and the Dark Knight Trilogy is better than Marvel. In tone, relatability, visuals and immersive effect, it is superior.
