Before Malekith, Hela Was Originally Supposed To Be The Main Villain Of THOR: THE DARK WORLD

Thor: The Dark World's Malekith the Accursed is one of the prime examples of a disappointing antagonist, but according to Marvel's Kevin Feige, Thor: Ragnarok villain Hela was the studio’s first choice...

Thor: The Dark World was a troubled production. The picture's director Alan Taylor and Marvel Studios didn’t share the same vision, so it’s not surprising that the final cut left the audience with rather mixed feelings, to say the least. Many fans have also wondered why it took Marvel so long do deliver a main female villain on the big screen.

According to Kevin Feige, the Asgardian goddess of death was supposed to debut way back in 2013. In an interview with Slashfilm, the producer revealed that “Hela was almost the villain in Thor 2. It didn’t happen for various reasons”. We can only guess what “various reasons” meant, but it’s a rather safe bet that Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter who used to oversee Marvel Studios didn’t like the idea, as he axed the female villain from Shane Black’s Iron Man 3.

Despite waiting so long, Feige doesn’t seem to be concerned about this situation: “thank God it didn’t [happen] because now we have Cate Blanchett and Taika doing it”. It’s hard not to share his enthusiasm after seeing Thor: Ragnarok. Blanchett created an incredibly powerful, independent, but also charismatic and sympathetic villain who doesn’t kneel before anyone, even the God of Thunder.

Do you think that Hela would be a good fit for The Dark World? Leave your thoughts down below!

See you soon in Sakaar Battle Arena, as Thor: Ragnarok releases TOMORROW.

Good! Malekith maybe could've been interesting, but they cut out like all of his God damn scenes. This seemed to happen with too many Marvel films before Phase 3. Ike leaving Marvel is one of the best things to happen to them.

Glad they saved her for Ragnorok.

Thank god she wasn't. Alan Taylor would've had her so under powered with his "Game of Thrones" grounded realism which just doesn't fit Thor when it comes to the power levels and action scenes anyway. Also Thor finally ISNT NERFED. Wait till you see Ragnorok

@XelCorp - That's right! Now we're seeing the MIGHTY Thor. God, how I loved those scenes!

@XelCorp - Being a slapstick comedy doesn't fit Thor either. Especially not Ragnarok

I'M kinda glad they waited to introduce Hela later. Malekith is probably by far the worst villains in the mcu.

“thank God it didn’t [happen] because now Taika doing it”.

Good way to shoot down the director of the Dark World.
